Just a Question???

Ok guys, I have a problem that I would like to ask about...............

Whenever I start eating my food hangs up no matter how slow or much I chew it, it hangs up then I have to run to the bathroom and either burp, let it pass, or worst of all throw it up. After this I can eat pretty well without any more problems. Ive tried drinking more to open up my band before I eat but it doesnt seem to work at all. This is sooooo embarassing and rumors are beginning to circulate about me that I dont like. I dont really care that much since I am moving in a little over a month, but its the fact of it all.

#1 they cant unfill me without completely unfilling me, and I can eat plenty, trust me I just went to get a fill put in my band last week because I was STARVING all the time!!! Like looking for food constantly. I eat probably TOO much still after the food gets hung

Do a search on this forum for "first bite syndrome"...

Try drinking a warm liquid before you begin to eat each meal to loosen you up.

I agree that it sounds like first bite syndrome. I have the same issue most of the time.

Mostly, the answer is to just let it pass. Get used to the idea that you are going to have to wait a while after your first bite or two, and it gets a little easier. Sometimes I even get a little hung up on liquidy stuff, so when I go out to eat, I tend to order a cup of Soup with my meal. French onion works well to get past the first bite stuff, because the onions are soft, and so I tend to be able to sit at the table like nothing is wrong while I wait for it to pass.

If that's not really an option (ie: mom's house for dinner), just take a teeny tiny bite or two, and the same theory applies, it's small enough and chewed enough that it'll pass... whenever it's gonna pass. Other than that, I don't have any really good ideas to get it to just go away altogether..

I would suggest before eating to drink a little warm liquid. I have heard that it can help relax your stomach and then food will go down easier. It's certainly worth a try.

Good luck.

Thanks guys, a little hot coffee or Soup before a meal is just the thing! I can eat now without having to umm well lets not go there....although I had a horrible incident last week with a beef patty from Sonic driving from a town about an hour from my town, lets say the outcome was not pretty nor lady-like lol...

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
