Surgery is coming up and im getting COLD FEET

Recommended Posts

My surgery is on the 23rd. Ive researched from lap band to the sleeve and decided the sleeve was for me. Now that im approved and gone through all the hurdles, i am getting cold feet. My hubby and parents are supportive but seems scared for me too. I guess im second guessing this. I know in my heart, i need to do this to get healthy, and to get my life back. And i guess just the "What if's" are getting to me. I know everything has a risk, but i really pray that i don't regret this after finally going through with this. Anyone feel the same way??

Although I was never banded, there are many on this site who were banded and now are sleeved. You may want to scroll down a little and find that forum for additional support.

Almost all of us have second thoughts, questioning "what am I doing?" Optional surgery is a choice. Many write a list of why they want surgery and what are the benefits. I have a new life without complications. Now I can do so many things that I would never have even thought of before. I hike without getting a rash on my inner thighs. No longer have to wear shorts under my skirts for the same reason. I buy clothes off the rack. I share meals when dining out and save a boat load of money. I feel better about myself. People treat me differently. I am healthy. I go to the gym more often. I stand in front when getting my picture taken, not behind someone. I am not always behind the camera. My children hug me in public more often. My mom thinks I am too thin, since I am her size now. My dad is proud of my ability to keep the weight off. I have a chin...not three. What else can you add?

The new you is just around the corner. I have no regrets - except maybe not getting this done earlier.

My surgery is the 24th and I am feeling the same way off and on. Sometimes I can hardly wait and sometimes I wonder what the heck am I doing! Then I get on here and see all of the amazing results and just can't wait until I have those results myself. Since we are only 1 day apart in our surgery keep posting and we can keep each other going. :)

everyone feel this way before surgery. you are normal. just remember why you want to make this lifestyle change and take it one day at a time. find projects to do to keep your mind from thinking too much about the surgery.

Everyone feels that way at some point during their journey!! You will be fine and do great. Look at all of the people on here, including me, that have had it done and are fine!

You will be fine too!

Hi juzme, what you are feeling is completely normal. I'd be surprised to find a handful of folks who didn't feel even a little nervous going into surgery. It's a scary thing! Especially since all of us have chosen to do this ourselves - not because the Dr's told us we had to or else. Which in my opinion it should be the case.

The sleeve has quite literally saved my life! Knowing this, It's just my opinion that I HAD to have this done.

Do your best to keep your mind occupied on other things. Maybe bury yourself in a good book to get your mind going off in a completely different direction. Then when you get out of surgery and are lying around wondering what you will do with all your time, you can finish up the story.. LOL :)

Also, maybe you can go clothing shopping online or in the store. Buy yourself a goal outfit!! Then one day when you fit into it and you realize it was sooner than you expected, you will have a really nice NSV to come here and tell us about. I know it's fun because I did this!! I had to go back out and buy the same pants two sizes smaller for a new set of goal pants.

Wishing you well on your upcoming surgery!!!

I am having surgery the 22nd. I also feel the same way. What am I doing????blink.gif

I am so confused. I hope I am making the right choice. I guess I am wondering about the what if's also. What if something goes wrong. What if, what if, what if, etc.......

What if I had just made better choices of food, what if I had exercised more.

What if I have buyer's remorse. Does anyone wish they had not done this?

Why do I feel like this? I spent so much time and effort getting this all going and now it is a week out and I am scared.

I So know how you feel!!!! ive lost like 7 lbs so far on the pre op and im thinking maybe i can just lose my weight with this diet...but then i realize if i haven't really lost my weight by now on my own, i don't think i really can do it on my own. I have your exact thoughts!! we should support each other .I know this entire forum is awesome and supports everyone. But since we are so close in our surgery dates we should be buddies! GOod luck to you! and please keep in touch!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
