Hey everyone- I had my band to sleeve revision on May 30th..I've lost 20lbs and am feeling great. Today, being Day15, I am allowed yogurt, SF pudding, etc... I bought some greek yogurt and took a couple of VERY small bites of it and it had a hard time going down. I could feel it sitting there and it took several minutes to go down and was mildly uncomfortable. I gave up and went back to my Protein Shake. Like everyone else, I want to know if this is normal??

Should I just stick w/the shakes until it's easier, or just very, very slowly eat the yogurt? It was a 4 oz container and would probably take me at least an hour to eat..

Greek yogurt is pretty thick...if you really want to eat it, try thinning it out with some liquid. If you are doing okay on your shakes and getting your Protein in, you are fine. Just because you are allowed a food doesn't mean you must eat it. Do what feels right in your stomach.

It seems like since trying the yogurt, I am burping w/every sip I take...weird..

You are still really swollen in there and thicker things will not go down as well as Water. I am 5 weeks out and still have issues with stuff sitting heavily in my chest or throat! It is not fun.

If it is thicker than a Protein Drink, thin it with some water to make it runny. That way, you will not have that issue.

I too get the burps after stuff gets stuck. It is weird. Kinda like it is rebelling in there! It will get better with time!!

Milk is a good thinner too.

If the yogurt and other thick things hurt then don't do them yet! Listen to your body. It wont hurt to let the swelling go down some more before you try the thicker things- and meanwhile milk will both thin yogurt, pudding, and even cream Soups and add Protein.

I used heavy cream to thin out the greek yogurt. While it has more Protein in it, it's very thick and just kinda sat there in my tummy. meh...didn't feel great at all. The heavy cream gave it a nice creamy texture. Milk is something that I can't have because it bothers my tummy A LOT, but the fat in heavy cream kind of "buffers" it in the tummy and it was fine.

I also wouldn't try to eat 4 ounces yet...if ever. I'm allowed 2 ounces but that's after healing, not while I'm swollen still. I can tell you this, after a few bites, I'm done. I can't eat any more and I can't sit there for an hour and wait for it to go down. I put it away until my next meal.

OMG I thought I was the only one. Converted from lap band to sleeve on 5/27/2011 and I am freaking out if I try anything thicker than really thin Protein shakes.

I took a drink of a shake today that had a lump of undisolved powder. Well, let me tell ya. I started to slime up had to go to bathroom and let it all come up.

Very very touchy tummy. Lots of scar tissue from the lap band removal, must be very swollen and tender. Sometimes feels like sips are stuck in my throat and

chest and not going down. I want to be thin, but not scarey sick looking from starving..... Also my BMI was not all that high, so rapid weight loss is going to

be more noticeable.

I do feel a little better after reading some of these posts.

Taking deep breath and small sips. Back to thinner liquids.

Thanks all,

Lynne,

Just progress at your own rate. if something doesn't feel good, try it again in a couple of weeks. Or just take a couple of bites and put the rest away until later.

I was that way with solids. I would take 2 bites and that would be all I could eat so I made sure I got most of my Protein from my Protein drinks.

Thanks everyone....Renee, I too am a Dr Aceves patient and am only allowed the 2 oz, I know I couldn't even do 1 oz of yogurt yet..

I am okay w/this, it's just different than my band and was unexpected. With my band, I had no issues w/yogurt or even cottage cheese

at this point. I can now see why people lose so quickly..I am now down 22lbs in 16 days. I am still so tremendously happy to have that

band out of me, I think I can handle almost anything.

I just need to get some more Protein shakes..I have been living off the Premeire Protein RTD from costco and Special K Protein H20.

I appreciate all of you!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
