meghuffman 4 Posted June 14, 2011 Hey. I know that each surgeon has their own Pre-op Diet, but can anyone give me an idea of what that diet includes? I'm hoping to go to my Nutritional class (the last thing I'll have to do prior to surgery) on July 6th or 20th and know that I'll get Dr. Schmitt's specific diet at that time. But, I was just wondering what is generally in that diet.
Penpen 28 Posted June 14, 2011 Hi Meg! I'm in my 3rd week of the preop diet and as of now I can only have 2 Protein shakes and one small meal. I cannot go over 1000 calories a day. I'm actually only getting 600-700 calories a day. Before last Wednesday, I was doing 4 Protein Shakes and 1 small meal. I have a blog that I started a couple of weeks ago and I have been blogging all about my preop and details of my diet, if you want to read it. http://sliceofhealthyplease.blogspot.com/ Good luck to you! Keep us posted!
CodenameSpivey 3 Posted June 14, 2011 I start my 2 week pre-op next week.. it's consisting of 2 Protein shakes a day - and then one meal with lean greens and lean meat... with additional shakes serving as Snacks. They also are having me add in some daily Vitamins too.. It's gonna be rough, but it's good preparation for life after surgery. Good Luck!
ashleyc 10 Posted June 14, 2011 Meg - have you already done your sleep study? I just switched from Dr Schmitt to Dr Touliatos at Trinity. He doesnt require a sleep study and he is preferred by my insurance. My first consult with him was yesterday and my appt with the nutritionist is today. Thats the last thing I have to do before submitting for insurance approval. The coordinator said I am going to have surgery before I would have even had a sleep study with Dr Schmitt. They also do not require $200 for the first visit. It was just my insurance co-pay. Also the pre-op class is FREE not 60 bucks like w Dr Schmitt....
