Did any one drink boost or ensure or anything like that as a meal? The list from my doc say carnation instant Breakfast. I think these will be comparable.

I drink Boost pretty regularly, IMHO I think they are pretty much the same. A LOT of NUTs don't like any of the pre-prepared drinks for various reasons. I drink the Boost brand because it has less sugar and they are smaller in size - at 6+ months out I can barely gag one of these things down anyway, too sweet tasting for my tastes post-op.

I tried to drink an Ensure once, but it was WAY nasty!! And had a lot of sugar in it!

I did low carb slim fast and low sugar carnation instant breakfast a few times. I could not seem to get many calories in for a couple of weeks so I resorted to them for nutrients.

Good luck!

Kelly

Being an almost former type 2 diabetic rolleyes.gif, I can say that Boost and Ensure have too much sugar and not enough Protein for our purposes. When I would drink boost, it would raise my blood sugar high, and then drop it and I'd be hungry again. I think Pure Protein is tasty, is packed with protein and gets the monkey off my back (term I use for being hungry).

Have you tried it?

I like Pure Protein Vanilla! That mix is really tasty. It is the only Protein mix that doesn't taste like protein to me!

They also have RTD cans and the strawberry Cream is SOOOOOO good!! I have a couple of those every week!

They also make Protein Bars that are really tasty!

Boost has a lower sugar version our place accepts. Instead of Ensure they ask you use Glucerna. It's a bit of that "eat this instead of that" thing. Find the best version of what you need. I'm not sure what version of Boost you are using but there definitely better choices than Ensure.

I have serious issues with low blood sugar and was actually told to use a few swallows of Ensure to bring my sugar back up quickly if that tells you anything about how sweet it is.

I was told NO to both of these from my doc because of the calorie/carb/sugar/protein ratio.

there are way better Protein drinks that you can get that are made for bariatric patients. You want to find one with 20-25 grams of Protein and not many carbs.

Go to the food section and look at the places to order samples.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
