I am pre-op, but have a question for those that are sleeved.

Are you obsessed with the scale? Is it emotionally possible to stay off and just weigh in at the doctors? Or do you weigh yourself every day, once a week, once a month? Every 10 minutes (LOL!)?

I can see myself getting so wrapped up in the small ups and downs and the stalls that I would go into a tailspin. But if I literally toss the scales will I go crazy not knowing my progress?

How do you handle it?

I would like to think that I am calm cool and collected enough to weigh in once a week, same time every week, but I know myself and the instant gratification part of me will want to keep jumping on that darn scale!!!!

Thoughts?

The scale is DEFINATELY your enemy. . . bad scale!!! After i had surgery i threw my scale into the garage. After my first year, I retrieved the scale and now use it sparingly. That thing can cause you to go crazy if you get up on every second! Use the doctors scales only at your appts. You'll be much happier with your progress! Good luck!

I want to know, too! I'm in preop right now and am going crazy with that dumb scale. I swear it is broken! It has sat on the same number for like 6 days now! I check my weight every morning and well, like I said, I'm going nuts!:blink:

Ugh,, the scale!!!! I had read several posts about people weighing themselves each day and they would comment they gained 2 pounds in one day, or whatever... I saw how frustrating it can be for those that weight themselves daily or several times a day.

I made my mind up prior to surgery that I would only weight myself once a week... and it has been very hard to hold to it!

I have "cheated" twice now and weighed myself prior to my scheduled day.... I could not imagine only weighing myself at doctors visits!!!

I can say it does get very frustrating for me to only see a 1 pound loss in a week.. or one time I had a .08 of a pound loss.. not even a full pound! I could not imagine how frustrating it would be for those people obsessed and weighing themselves multiple times each week.

For me, I picked Wednesday, that was the day my surgery was on, it gives me incentive during mid week to keep going! I actually look forward to Wednesday mornings in order to weigh myself...once a week works, and gives me something to look forward to each Wednesday!

I try REALLY hard to weigh myself once a week, but at just two weeks post op I "cheat" all the time. Sometimes it is discouraging but even when the scale isnt moving I can tell I am getting smaller. So I have to tell myself that is what matters more. I can see my stomach and boobs shrinking so I know somehow I am losing even if it hasn't shown up on the scale

I am scale obsessed. I'm trying to find the willpower to throw it out because it's not doing me any good. I get on it at least 3 times a day. It's horrible for my progress and my self-esteem. Then I hit the dreaded 3 week stall and it is all I obsess about. I do not recommend keeping one around. Unless you can commit yourself to weighing only once a week, get rid of it now.

My case mgr said we are suppose to weigh daily! WHAT??? I don't think so! That is totally obsessive in my opinion! She thinks it keeps you on track and honest! I think it makes you CRAZY!!

I weigh on Sunday and that is it!

Every day. I decided to do this from day one, and learn not to go crazy. Mostly I am successful. I write it in a book and add up the pounds lost every week as a kind of long view of whats going on. I also measure every couple of weeks to see whats up there. I also write down what I eat and keep track of calories, carbs and Protein. I really try not to be obsessive, and really I don't like to keep track, but it helps with accountability. People who keep track have a better chance of keeping it off long term, so Im doing it for that reason.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

        Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
