So' date=' something's bothering me. When I went in today to pick up my Meal Replacement stuff, a woman 9 mos. post-op came in raving about her gastric bypass. When I told her I was getting a sleeve she said "don't do that. Get the bypass". I told her I didn't want to deal with the dumping syndrome and malabsorption issues. She said she chose bypass because she needed a fail safe where she physically could not eat "bad" foods. I said again that I thought sleeve was the best option for me. She very sarcastically said "good luck with that.".

As the night is going on, it's starting to mess with my head. Should I be getting the bypass, not the sleeve? And on and on in my head. What worries me about the sleeve is that I can still (theoretically) in time eat all foods. Is this going to be a downfall for me? I dont want to be that person that gains weight back but part of me doesnt trust myself. Ive failed over and over on diets. Im worrying that im going to eat around the sleeve and fail.

I hate that I'm second guessing myself now and really irritated that someone would say something as rude as inappropriate as that to someone a week before surgery.

What do you guys think? Needing some reassurance that I'm choosing the right surgery and that I CAN do this![/quote']

The best advice I can give is the following: Ask yourself the reasons you chose the sleeve in the first place I'm sure you have a list of reasons. I think the first choice is usually the best one. The main reason I chose the sleeve: I wanted my digestive tract to remain intact (no blind stomach as with bypass). It scared me that if needed a doc could not easily view my stomach with an endoscope. I think bypass is much more invasive. I seriously can not believe the nerve of that woman! She should have had more empathy for someone about to embark on this journey. Also from what I hear the long term success in keeping weight off is not good. I am only 4 and 1/2 weeks out but I can tell you this..... The sleeve is working. GO WITH YOUR GUT on this one.

Remember the more invasive the more risk your Dr would of informed you if bypass was more appropriate Go with your gut was done on Monday and it wasn't fun but better every day know in the end it will all be worth it

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
