Fit2btied 122 Posted September 24, 2013 Welcome. You going through the Kane center? No I am using Barrington Surgeons out of Good Shepard hospital. I wanted to use the Kane center but their mandatory seminars do not work with my schedule at all. I even called to see if they would see me for a second opinion and she said not until I go to the seminar. My reply was, you're turning away a surgery for a seminar? Sure did. If they had a daytime one I could have gone but my kids are all over the place at night and on weekends. Anyway, I'm not the biggest fan of Alexian Brothers so its all good. I want to get set up with a group out here before I go for surgery in January Sent from my iPhone using VST Hi Loveelaura!! Sorry I can't help you. I don't go to support groups. My doctors office offers them but I don't go to them. I live in Yorkville and their office is in Downers Grove. Kind of a long drive!! ;(
roxi7777 0 Posted October 11, 2013 I live in Yorkville, and my support groups are in Hoffman Estates. It is quite a drive. Would anyone be interested in starting our own support group in the Yorkville area? Say once per month to start, maybe Monday night?
loveelaura 52 Posted October 12, 2013 I'd be down for that! So far everything I've found is super far away! I think I'll have to visit one "professional' one before surgery per my surgeon ( I'm supposed to visit a session out there before surgery but since I'm traveling to Oklahoma it just won't work!) Cherryhair 88 Posted October 22, 2013 Another Dr Chand soon to be-have you all heard anything about Loyola's center and / or surgeons?
Miss Mac 6,262 Posted October 22, 2013 What I know about Loyola is that they have a reputation for outstanding care, and are an excellent teaching facility for med students. I found out by scooting around on-line that Dr. Chand was head of the bariatric program at the Cleveland Clinic which is like the mayo Clinic of the East. Loyola just recently snatched him up to head their bariatric program. I am totally comfortable with this team and am ready to get on the other side of my surgery date. 1 Cherryhair reacted to this

Hopefully that means they provide a lot of support in person ( groups, etc). I'm sure if there were bad things to report I would have found it by now. Think positive! Miss Mac 6,262 Posted October 22, 2013 Loyola does have support group sessions. The team consists of two surgeons, two bariatric physicians, two nutritionists, two psychologists and exercise physiologists....which about covers everything. The bariatric clinic is not on the main campus that is close to Brookfield Zoo, but that is where the surgery is performed . The Bariatric Clinic itself is on first street in Melrose Park, on their Gottlieb Hospital campus, which is where my liver ultrasound was done, and my endoscopy will be done on Thursday. It is clean - clean - clean, and everyone I have come in contact with has be gracious and kind. I have every confidence in this team so far. And as far as the Protein Drinks and supplies, it is multiple choice from a long list. Hope this helps. 1 Cherryhair reacted to this
m&m4ever 109 Posted October 22, 2013 I'm from Tinley Park. I had my surgery July 29, 2013 at Little Company of Mary hospital with Dr Cahill. He is awesome and so is his team. They have nutrition classes you attend after the surgery and the nutritionist is there for you whenever you need her for life. They have support meetings every 1st Tuesday of the month. The nurse practitioner that works with the surgeon is also the bariatric coordinator and runs the support group. He is the best. I cannot say enough great things about him. He cares about each and every patient like they are family. The support group is open to the public, so I'm sure anyone can attend. 1 Christa Moreno reacted to this
