I'm in the NW Suburbs and had surgery 3/20/13 at Advocate Good Shepherd. Good luck to those going through upcoming surgery!

I would also recommend The Kane Center - specifically Dr. Rantis. He was great before and on surgery day - was also great with my family on surgery day. I had two follow up appointments with his PA and recently had my 6 mo followup with Dr. Rantis (more like 7 month). Very encouraging and positive. I met Dr. Kane in the hospital and has a great bed-side manner.

I second the Kane center and also Dr rantis. Was sleeved 12/10/12 with him. He was amazing preop and also postop. I see him tomorrow for my 6 month checkup.

When did you have surgery or was it your son? Someone in one of my preop nutrition class was there with his mom and also the day I had surgery i saw the same mom and son. I never introduced myself but was wondering if that was you .

That's awesome!! Congrats!!!

I had Dr. Lahmann on April 29, 2013. Combined with my pre op diet, I am at 59.5lbs down! Follow whatever they say and you will do great, love the staff at BMI and silver cross!

Wow, your doing great! I'm down around 32ish including preop. I was sleeved 5/13/13 by Joyce, but I guess I had a hiatal hernia repaired by Lahman. I didn't know I had a hernia until istarted getting the bills.

That's crazy about the hernia, but thankfully it's repaired! You are doing awesome, feels good right? Have you gone to any of the support group meetings?

I have not gone to any of the meetings yet, but have my month follow up and a nutrition class soon. I do feel really good. I can't believe I even had surgery a month ago. It doesn't even feel like it happened, except that I can't eat much. I'm having a hard time with exercise though. It's tough to get motivated.

Hi Willycq: I am in Sauganash, north of you. I was sleeved 5/15/2013 by Dr. Lutfi at St. Joseph's. Highly recommend. We have an awesome support group. I have had a great experience -- no complications, no nausea, no pain. If I didn't have 5 little belly scars and the inability to eat very much, I might think it never happened.

Also, found a great, local sleever, a prof chef who has started her own company making pre-op shakes and broths, and post-op smoothies, purees, and Soups. She's kept me going with her wonderful, filling shakes and Soups. If you want her contact info let me know.

Feel free to contact me if I can help in anyway.

Hi ecteacher. Don't know if your question was to me, but I couldn't do the puréed foods. The woman I am buying my shakes/smoothies and Soups from does puréed soups that have wonderful flavor. I just couldn't handle the texture. So I stayed on smoothies and added some cooked chicken-veggies to the puréed soups for about a week. Then I went directly to soft foods (soups, cottage cheese, eggs, etc).

Today is my five week anniversary, and I am branching out to real food, like meatballs, turkey w/mashed potatoes. But, things I used to eat sometimes upset my little tummy, so I go back to soups and smoothies.

Hope this helps.

Hello! I had my surgery on 5/31/13 at Alexian Brothers with Dr. Guske of the Kane Center. I've had problems with my incision healing and finally after a culture of the wound, I'm on the right antibiotic. Hopefully I'll be healed soon. I've not felt good a lot of the days - wondering if its the infection. I also haven't lost any weight in over a week - very disappointing. This week I'll get to see Guske again - up until now I've only seen PA's - a bit frusterating.

Anyone else had problems with the incision not healing?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
