Does anyone have trouble drinking Water?

Water is the only liquid that hurts when I drink it. I feel like a bubble is stuck in my chest and then i end up burping alot after trying to drink it.

I even get nauseous drinking water. And it is just extremely frustrating. I put a splash of juice in the water and for some reason that helps. But I'm not a "sweet" person. I'm burdened by eating all these sweet stuff in the first couple of weeks, and I don't need my water tasting sweet as well!!!

HELP!!

I had that issue too. I could not do crystal light or flavored waters...they were sickly sweet! I have NEVER put ice in my drinks...room temp all the way. Cold killed my teeth actually. Now teeth be damed, I have to pack a drink with ice! Cold cold cold and it is the only way Water will go down! If its super icy cold I can tolerate it? Maybe try that??

I too find that Water is the hardest thing to drink. I've tried crystal light, coffee substitute, cold, room temp, it's just hard. I will try a splash of juice and see if that works. Yest was my first day on full liquids. I got my prot drinks in and a total of 24 oz of water. I didn't feel good after spending all day drinking water. Any suggestions???

In the begining I had an issue with Water by itself but what did help me a lot because as everyone knows, the sweet stuff tends to get a bit on your nerves, was beef broth cubes in a hot mug of water. It gave me a savory flavor that I was craving and it went down nicely. :) hope this helps!

Seems to be the same for a lot of people, me included. I agree with the bouillion...I use low sodium chicken or beef, just to get in some Water that isn't sweet. I'm also a big fan of low sodium V8.

I am 1 week post op and cant get down Water either. Even warm or room temp Water makes me gurgle like an Alka Seltzer was released inside my tummy and then the acid burps come. The Prilosec is not very helpful. So what I am doing is take a sip of water (baby sip) and then a sip of warm broth to flush it down. I also bought Smart Water because it has electrolytes already in it. I use the smart water to make my broth. Granted right now, I probably get about 30oz or less of anything in one day. Hopefully it will get better because right now I have buyers remorse~~

Gurgling is normal for the first couple of weeks. My tummy sounded like a mac truck was being driven through it. Now, half-wya through week 3, I mostly have embarrassing burps.

Drink slooowly at first. It helps. At first, I drank one ounce every 15 minutes. I used a timer.

I still can't tolerate room temp drinks. They must be hot or cold. I don't care for sweet drinks or ones that seem a little thick, like the Propel Water I tried today or the Isopure Protein drinks. Crystal Lite Pink Lemonaide is not sweet. I also like Lipton Diet Green Tea with Citrus. For hot, I like Starbucks Decaf coffee and Sleepytime tea. Or just plain hot Water if I'm cold.

I am one week out and I too find it difficult to get all my Fluid in through sipping. Not quite sure what it is. I realized that drinking through a straw was giving me gas pains so I changed to a cup or water bottle and I found that it just was not cutting it. Since Friday I started having crushed ice and it has been my savior. I always have a cup of it with me and just constantly eat it. I went to the movies and took a thermos full of crushed ice and sat through the movie eating it as if it was popcorn (it was actually nothing like it) but at least I had something. I also did the same for my daughters softball game, It is great because I don't feel so dehydrated and there is no gas. Not sure if it will work for you but it worth a try. i hope things get better.

This is very common for some reason. I've heard that it's because Water has the wrong PH balance for the sleevd stomach. I can drink water now, but it bothered me for awhile. Sometimes I just add a little bit of cryrstal light and not the whole package because it's just too sweet. I can't drink

any liquid cold. Room temp or warm feels best to me!

My Doctor said that adding a bit of lemon or lime juice to Water sometimes helps a lot and doesn't make it sickly sweet. A lot of people apparently have problems with just plain Water and this is his solution to it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
