Hi!

I have been a close follower of the forum, more in the initial days post the surgery. It helped reduce my stress level as whatever concerns or questions I had was shared by someone or the other.

Lately, I have been visiting the forum less and realize that I have also been less disciplined and motivated with my regime. I am happy with the overall progress at an individual level but when I compare myself to any of the case studies, I think I am an outlier :( .

I had my VSG on 6th Jan 2011 with the pre-surgery weight of 202.6 pounds (am 162 inches). Today is 12th June and I am 159 pounds. A total loss of approx 43 pounds. Infact, its been 1 month and I have not lost more than 1 pund.

Do you think it is because of disciplined exercise regime? I feel too weak and lazy to exercise. My diet is under control though there is a lot of room for improvement with respect to Water consumption.

Please do also advise if such slow progress is okay since I did not see a single case study recording such low averages...and share what I should do to reach my goal which is 18 pounds away!

Cheers!

Tough love here, ok? It sounds to me like you answered your own questions! You need to exercise and you need to tighten up your diet and increase your water! Nobody who loses greater than the average here does it without effort, even with the sleeve. You bought the tool, now put it to good use. What you have lost so far is impressive and wonderful! Take advantage of this first year postop and really work hard at changing those habits so that you can have a good outcome in maintenance, where the real work of keeping it off begins. Visit here more if that helps and we will support you!

You had your surgery one week before me... I have lost 51 pounds from surgery, but have more to lose than you. I would love to weight what you do now for my final goal! I would think that you are losing slower now because you are near goal, and also you need to drink your Water and get in some more exercise. Even walking and such is good. If you are feeling weak, perhaps you need to have your blood labs done to see if you need to change your Vitamin intake... are you getting in your Protein? I think you should be able to lose some more, but you need to do the right thing on your end of the deal. Good luck and congratulations on your loss sop far!

When your at a lower weight you tend to lose the weight slower is my observation so far. I lost about 30 lbs before my start of pre op diet and then on my surgery date I was 193 on 4/27/2011. After one month post op I was only down 17 lbs. Keep in mind that once you get closer to goal it comes off slower. That being said, drink your Water, be strict with what you eat and put some more exercise into it if you want to see faster results. I personally think each person approaches this at their own level and will succeed but at their own pace. Good luck!

WOW I think you are doing great! I'm 9 1/2 months out and have lost 56.2 lbs. Some lose faster than others, some lose quicker than others. Enjoy the journey!

Thanks everyone. I started with 30 minutes walk starting today. Hopefully can be strict with myself to follow the regime. I realize that I also need to be tuned to the forum to be in touch with all you wonderful people who are so supportive and help me stay motivated.

I was always into fad diets before the VSG and I think that my BMR is all messed up! So am happy so far to have lost this much as long as it does not come back again with vengeance. Will have to be patient with the last leg progress, I guess

@feedyoureye - Am taking 1 tab of Bariatric Advantage daily and a monthly shot of Vit B12 injection. Else diet intake is under control...though caffeine (with splenda) intake should be reduced and Water intake increased instead  !

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
