I just wanted to introduce myself. I have been reading the boards for a couple of months now and hadn't had the opportunity to post. However, now that I am at home recovering I thought I would say hi!

My surgeon was Dr. Jeffery Kolff at Abington Memorial Hospital. I live in the greater Philadelphia, PA area. I had my surgery Tuesday afternoon and was discharged Wednesday afternoon. I have been doing great so far, no complications and no side effects yet, and haven't taken any pain meds since Wednesday. Last night I walked around a store for an hour w/ my husband which felt great! I am definitely pretty tired still but overall feel great. I am not getting a ton of my full liquids down, but I am still doing well sipping & drinking the yogurt and Protein Shakes.

I will probably have lots of questions in the next few weeks & months! I look forward to getting to know you all and learn from your experiences.

Congrats, I too had my surgery done on June 7th. I came home on June 9th and too have done well. I started my full liquids today and it's 4:30 pm and I've already got 54 of my 60 daily Protein grams in for the day. I'm now working on the Water. :)

Hope each day gets better for us both; I look forward to following your progress. Good luck to you!

I also had my surgery June 7th, and came home on June 9th. On Wednesday, I was so tired and sore, couldn't stay awake, I was definitely wondering what I'd done. However, every day since then has been better. I am walking often, getting my Protein shakes in, and drinking v8. I'm working hard on the Water, but am struggling getting past 40 oz. I was never a good Water drinker before surgery either though!

Overall, I am feeling pretty good. I'm showering every day and getting around pretty well, just a little sore. I've been staying with friends so far, and am going to head home tomorrow. I have my first post-op appointment on Monday, am hoping he'll remove the drain at that time.

Good to hear how everyone is doing!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
