Questions 6 days out from sleeve

Recommended Posts

I have been doing great but have a lot of rumbling/bowel sounds when I drink. It sometimes sounds like an eruption in my stomach. Loud sounds. Also, I think I might be dumping after my Protein Drinks. I know this is early in the game and I am just trying to roll with the punches. Just womdering if this is normal and if so I will wait for it to pass. I started full liquids this morning and had some runny oatmeal for Breakfast, apple jiuce 1 hour later and now a popsicle. I am having an issue with low blood sugar at mid day, weak feeling is this normal too. I am not diabetic.

Just want to know that what I am feeling is what others have experienced.

As long as you are not in a lot of pain, not vomitting, and don't have a fever you are OK. The first couple of weeks is a blur of weird sounds and unpredictable bowel activity. I was dead-tired exhausted for almost 6 weeks. It could be blood sugar, but it is most likely becuase you are getting in very little calories and you are still recovering from major surgery.

You may want to lay off the super-sugary apple juice. Also, you could be experienceing problems from the fake sugar in your Protein drinks. Just check with your doc and make sure you are eating the things you are supposed to and you should be fine.

GOod luck!

Hi! I am two weeks out and when i went to my post-op visit my doc said that those rolling noises are normal! And i too felt weak, just make sure you get those fluids and protien in ;) !! it could mean you might be getting dehydrated?

Same issues here and I am 5 days out. Gurgling, rumbling, all sorts of weird noises. I just assume its the sounds of liquids beginning to move through the intestines. After cleaning out the colon before surgery and basically nothing the day of surgery.....i guess the stomach and intestines were just so empty! Now things are starting to move again:)

I had diarrhea the first couple of weeks after my surgery and my doctor suggested I dilute my Protein drinks more as they are tough to assimilate at first. The problem ended in week three.

I too was wondering about the diarrhea. Info. I had read about the sleeve post-op said to expect "looser stools". I had my surgery on Wed. June 8. I had my first BM yesterday, Saturday. It was diarrhea...no solids. Surprised me. My stomach was doing all the rumbling too...had no idea what was doing on in there! But it rumbles, then I have to run to the bathroom. I became very dehydrated the night/day after my surgery (a lot of vomiting) so am trying to stay on top of all my fluids so I stay hydrated.

Still having a little pain, taking the Roxicet about every 6 hours or so. The narcotics usually make me very constipated, so I was surprised by the diarrhea.

Glad to know my tummy isn't the only rumbler out there!

C.

I had the rumbling and had the loose stools of tiny quantities, almost felt like it wasnt eorth going for such small amount. Once i got on Protein drinks, i had more to go on, as it were. Daydreamer, when you see dumping on this forum it is usually referring to dumping syndrome which is rarer in vsg, but can happen. It is when your food suddenly gets to where its going and your body goes into a little shock, this csn cause chills, pain. Etc.

What I was really speaking of was the fact that I was having the rumbling and more diarrhea than I thought I would. Seemed like things were running through me too fast. But that has slowed down and is much better. From the comments I have received I think that is expected for some. My doctor told me that Constipation could be expected and to take MOM 2 ounces every hour until I had results. Thank goodness I did not have to do that.

I have my drain removed tomorrow and a little nervous about that. Just will be glad it is gone. Getting my Fluid requirement and started on Protein about 1/2 of what is required according to my bariatric coordinator at first. It will all come together soon. Fluid, Protein, feeling better. No pain. Ready to find that extra energy and get back up on my feet.

Keep up the good work everyone. Stay in touch.

Walk, sip, hydrate.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
