It's good to be able to share with others who have had weight loss surgery. Everytime I tell someone about it, I can feel their eyes fighting the urge to travel down my body to see if there really is a difference yet.

I chose to do the surgey because I was tired of weight related health issues which were promising to get worse and not better. I wanted to reclaim my body. No matter how often I tried to lose weight it always reappeared with little brothers and sisters attached to it. I got to the point where I hated myself, considered myself a weak person incapable of handling weight issues. I never had problems with weight until my 40's and then due to medication and a bout of depression and giving up on myself and then menopause, I just could not get the weight off. Then the weight related issues started, and I decided I needed something drastic. I began researching weight loss surgery two years ago. I went to seminars, took numbers and talked to patients and just kept reading about it. I must have made four appointments and cancelled each one before I found a surgeon in my area I felt I could trust.

I had the surgery May 23, and returned home the next day to a huge storm in Texas. I took some pain and anti-nausea medication and sat down to listen to the storm warnings on the news and fell asleep in the chair. An hour later I woke up slightly only to hear the storm raging outside, and I fell asleep again. I never heard the city sirens or the hail or the wind or anything. Apparently, it was one of the worst storm in the area in several years. The moral of the story is not to take medication during a bad storm as you may die from the bloody storm and not the surgery.

I feel great. I've not really had problems with nausea and have been able to keep down food. I dislike the Protein Drinks now and have moved into the drinks, Protein Bars and eggs. I've lost 20 lbs only and am starting to think that I really didn't have a portion of my stomach removed as I'm not losing more weight. I am getting frustrated. However, I started walking two miles almost every other day and will be adding Water aerobics to the days I don't walk. So, I'm sleeping well.

Nice to meet you all.

Welcome to the forums. If you had your surgery the 23rd of May, you might be in the "normal" stall that happens around week 3 or so. It will pass. You are doing great though - lost 20 pounds! That's fantastic! Plus walking 2 miles! Wow - I would love to be able to say that in the future!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
