lunarose 97 Posted June 10, 2011 Hi All, DH and I have been invited to the wedding of a fishing buddy of his. He isn't close to the guy and neither one of us have met his future bride. It is his second marriage and he is our age 50 something. I know nothing about his bride. My question is the invitation has nothing in it about a registry so if we decide to go what do we do about a wedding gift?
bilka 6 Posted June 10, 2011 In my opinion when you reply to the invitation you should ask them. If you know his parents/family you could ask them (but from what I understand you aren't that close). Otherwise you just prepare a nice card and give them some money, because when people don't have a list they normally like some cash...
Tiffykins 673 Posted June 10, 2011 In my opinion, and this is just my opinion, but a bridal shower is for gift giving. Weddings are for celebrating the actual marriage, and an open announcement of the vow exchange. If I were in your situation, there would not be a gift from myself and my husband especially if you do not know the bride, and were not invited to the bridal shower, and he was not invited to the bachelor party. That's just me though. It's probably not proper etiquette, but neither is expecting gifts from wedding invitees that are not close to the couple.
lunarose 97 Posted June 11, 2011 Thanks all. DH just told me we are probably won't be going (of course the last time he put me in this situation we ended having to go at the last minute). I was thinking that if we do end up going maybe a donation in their name to one of my favorite charities either pediatric cancer or march of dimes. He is a doctor so I think it would be appropriate.
