If you need a ear or what have you drop me a line. Soon I too shall feel you pain/joy. Stay strong brother and congratulations. Very few have the courage to change their lives like you have.

Congrats on being sleeved and welcome to the losers bench!!! Sorry you are still experiencing pain. I didn't have it real bad, but it's probably also the hiatal hernia repair that is making your recovery more difficult. I know it will get better everyday for you! You may not be able to get all the liquid and Protein in, so focus on hydration first. The protein might take a while to get in, just do what you can. Hope you feel better soon!!

Hi!

I was told prior to surgery that any movement using my stomach muscles could hurt and to plan on sleeping in La-Z-Boy chair for a few nights. I actually slept in La-Z-Boy chair for about a week after surgery because my bed is very high off the ground and it did hurt gettting in & out of it. The first week it hurt to get up & down out of a chair too, or the car! Oh my, getting in & out of the car pulled at stomach muscles... nothing that I truly needed to take pain meds for, but it sure let you know to be careful! It took me a good week to heal up enough to sleep in bed and do the simple tasks with out feeling the pain.

Good luck!

Congrats on making it to the other side! Every day will probably get a little better. The general word on surgical pain is that day 3 is usually the roughest day. Believe it or not, one of the best things for postop pain is to get up and move. Don't let your wife wait on you even if she wants to, even if you want her to. Get up and make your own shakes. Fetch your book or your remote yourself. Walk around the house. Stroll out to get the mail.

The more you move the lower your pain will be and the sooner it will resolve. Remember too to breathe deep into your lungs, even if taking those deep breaths hurt. Do it every couple of hours several times in a row.

Keep us posted on how you are!

Man I loved that hydrocodone. I can see how people get addicted. I only used it at night but it definitely helped me sleep through the pain! I also refilled it once and so wanted to a second time but didn't- afraid i would get addicted. I also had the hiatal hernia repair at the same time- not sure if it added to the pain or not. Just remember to sip, walk, and rest and you will do great! Good luck to you and you continue on this journey. You are lucky to have your wife there to help you along!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
