What the heck! 12 days post op and gained 2 lbs

Recommended Posts

Help me! Tell me I am going to be OK! I weigh myself every morning. I had been dropping more than a pound a day (12.9 lbs lost since surgery) then day 10 nothing, day 11 nothing, day 12 gained 2 lbs!! Having trouble since I went back to work drinking all my Fluid. Could that be it? I have a Protein Shake for Breakfast, Soup or pureed turkey chili for lunch, and pureed turkey and veggies for dinner. I feel kind of bloated, but not hungry.

I haven't been sleeved yet, but you may be entering a stall. Things will be all right though. Make sure you get all of your fluids in - they are vital to loosing the weight from what I have been told.

Its normal and you will goo through it alot. I lost 8 pounds last week up 2 pounds this morning. Then down 2 this afternoon. Its all a part of the process.

It also depends on the time of day you weigh yourself. Always weigh yourself right after you wake up because believe it or not, all that liquid really does weigh against you...so to speak.

I lost 22 pounds the first 10 days after surgery. I'm now at 13 days out and I gained 1 pound (according to before bed last night). When I woke up today I had lost that pound.

Just take a breath and don't stress, k? It'll come off, no worries!

Same thing happened to me. I entered a stall at around the same time you are and I gained a few pounds then lost a couple more. I was stuck at the same weight for two entire weeks, then I started working out, counting my calories and Protein intake and low and behold stall went away! Just be patient with your body. Good luck!

I had an 8 day period of no loss in my second week. I do think you really need to make sure you get your fluids- it is a key part of this weight loss process- it keeps your body clearing out the byproducts of weight loss. Also make sure you get your Protein and count your carbs. A month out today I still set my phone timer to make sure I drink or I quickly fall behind.

Thank you all so much! The scale has finally moved in a positive direction. I am getting organized ... it has been hard working and still concentrating on everything I need to be eating and drinking. I have planned out my meals and will work this weekend to cook and prepare some small containers to bring food to me. And as Meggiep suggested ... set my phone alarm to remind me to drink. It is just so amazing to me that I can go almost all day and not even be hungry. Much different experience than pre-surgery.

Thanks for the support, stories and encouragement. It is very much appreciated!

For me I stalled at 2 weeks for about 2 weeks. Don't worry. Just follow doctors orders and the weight will come off. I was on Clear Liquids for a full 2 weeks then liquid yogurt for another 2 weeks. I didn't start mushy foods for a while. Good luck

My surgeon explained to me that our bodies are in an inflammatory state till about 6 weeks out. As our bodies heal, it cycles in retaining and letting go of Fluid as needed. He assured me that at this early out if the scale goes up it's fluid. And even if the scale doesn't move downward, you are still probably losing weight because the fluid retention can be pretty deceiving.

If you decide to weigh daily, you have to accept that the numbers will go up and down. You know you can't have gained fat, so don't worry about it. Fluid shifts, bowel movements, lots of things affect weight.

I do weigh daily, so I understand, but I can tell as soon as I get up in the morning if I will weigh heavier or lighter. If it's lighter I dance around happy, if it's not I just ignore it because I know it will go down in a day or two. It has to, if I'm only eating 800 calories and walking!

So just keep in mind that weight is a fluctuating number. I actually find it interesting to see how the weight changes depending on what I have been eating/doing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
