I AM SO EXCITED. I HAVE FINALLY JUMPED THROUGH ALL OF THE HOOPS TO QUALIFY FOR MY VSG! I HAVE AETNA INSURANCE. MY SURGEONS OFFICE PLANS TO SUBMIT MY CLAIM FOR PRE-CERTIFICATION BY NEXT TUESDAY. ANYBODY OUT THERE KNOW ABOUT HOW LONG IT TAKES AETNA TO APPROVE SOMEONE?

If I recall correctly, Aetna approved me in about one week or ten days last year. Overall, I have no complaints about Aetna. I went for my first consultation with my surgeon in mid-April and I was sleeved on July 13th. I am happy to say that the process was pretty painless. My biggest issue was staying on top of my doctor's office to keep my file moving.

Be patient and keep your eye on the prize. Here I am 11 months later and I have lost 120 pounds!

Good luck to you!

Brian

Just got my approval letter last night - took about 10 days (Memorial Day Holiday may have slowed it down a little).

I knew I was approved last week because Aetna has a nurse called me to answer any questions I had about the surgery. She was really nice and supportive and gave me her phone number if I have any other questions and also asked that I please call her when the real date has been set. She also wanted to re-assure that even though the letter states one day in the hospital, I am approved for whatever I need and not worry about it.

Now if the surgeon's office would just call to set up a date, I am so ready to get started...

Good Luck!

The Aetna lady told me usually 15 days..she told me to call her when my docs office sends the paperwork so she can keep an eye out for it. She had RNY herself and has been very helpful answering questions and keeping track of my progress so far. Next Friday is my last dietician visit so I am getting anxious about approval too. Good luck!

I also have Aetna, but for the life of me I couldn't tell you how long it took to get approval. I began my wl journey back in September 2010 and was told I was approved 5/13/2011. I went into the surgeon's office so he could look at my "belly" for SIL VSG. As I was exiting the office, I overheard the program coordinator tell the surgeon "she agreed to June 13th and she's approved" I yelled out, "did you say, I was approved" the coordinator replied, yes - you've been approved for ages.

But when I think back, I did get a call from the insurance company, but I never returned the call. Maybe that was them giving me the good news. Well I'm scheduled for June 13th! Scary, Exciting and Scary - Yikes!!!!

I just got approved from Aetna this week...

My surgeon originally submitted me on May 21st, on May 23rd Aetna kicked it back saying it was missing stuff... so we had to dig up some more paperwork, after we got it it was resubmitted on 6/2 .. again .. kicked back 2 days later because Aetna was waiting on a response from my dr. on if he operated out of one of Aetna's IOQ centers... After I found out he didn't, I resubmitted with another surgeon the same day, and was certified that evening... So for me it was about 2 weeks, I don't know if it would have been quicker if everything were submitted correctly the first time... or if I had started with a surgeon that was out of a Aetna IOQ center (Aetna wouldn't pay for me to have surgery if it wasn't at an IOQ, something I did not know before starting the procesS) besides that, it was a painless process, and they have been from prompt with just about everything I have wanted to speak to them about.

Good Luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
