I am 3 weeks out from surgery and I am fatigued in the worst way. I used to be a heavy Pepsi/Coke drinker and of course I haven't had that in over 3 weeks....but I am exhausted...any thoughts?

are you getting plenty of protien??

I find that when I am not really good about my protien intake I get really tired.

Many things, early on, can cause this...low calories, low Protein intake, surgery/healing process, depression. Make sure to take your Multivitamins and eat/drink your Protein. Plus, take it easy on yourself during this healing stage. You're going through many new things!

Take care. Shawn

Are you drinking enough? Dehydration is a way to sap the energy right out of you...and remember you are still in recovery period so some tiredness is to be expected. Drink your Water and get your Protein and you'll get better much quicker.

First your body's innard are healing, that alone will wear you down, second, I'm sure your not getting enuf nutrition. Don't let this get you down, IMHO you should call your doctor and ask him/her what kind of dietary changes you can make to help you feel better.

Don't panic, you'll feel better soon.... hugs ~

In going through your pre-testing were you tested for sleep apnea. Having it can drain a lot of energy out of your body even with the right amount of Protein. I feel sooooooooo much better since I was diagnosed and am on C-Pap and finally getting a good night's sleep. It is something to think about, and yes your diet is definitely important.

God Bless,

Dody

I was incredibly tired for about 5 weeks post-op. Then one day I realized "I feel like my old self again." You may just still be recovering from the surgery and the anesthesia. Definitely pay attention to the Protein and hydration issues raised, but just be kind to yourself as well for a few more weeks. You'll feel so much better very soon.

You are in the recovery stage and I think that's normal but I noticed that you are used to drinking a lot of caffinated drinks. Have you also had headaches? I had caffine withdrawal at first and then started to drink tea in the morning....that helped me a little.

3 weeks out you are probably not eating very much. I would consult your doctor on how many calories you can intake. Make sure you are getting enough. As far as the caffeine goes, I am drinking 1 cup of coffee in the a.m. Ask them if you can have some tea or coffee. That may help you get off the sodas. Good luck.

Want to hear it again? Protien, also think about counting calories to make sure you are getting enough, I was shocked at how few I was getting initially. Are you taking a Multivitamin? Centrum makes a chewable one, it's a good idea for anyone, but a great idea for us.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
