Kaiser Pre-Op Meal Plan

Recommended Posts

So Kaiser requires a pre-op diet and at first I was pretty nervous about it, thinking to myself, "Dang, I don't know if I'll be able to eat such small amounts!!" but you know what? This has really not been nearly as difficult as I originally anticipated. I pre-measure out my meals ahead of time so that they are handy and convenient. If they aren't convenient, I will just grab whatever delicious, carb-filled treat is near me when I get hungry. :) I have been on this diet for 2 weeks now and I am down 7 pounds. Not too shabby, especially compared to how little I have lost on diets in the past. Honestly, it is very easy to stick with once you get the portions down right. And it is good practice to be measuring everything I put in my mouth. It has really opened my eyes to just how much I was eating before.

I went ahead and attached the meal plan and I also attached a little file that I made myself called the "weekly diet". I wanted to be able to write out my meals ahead of time so that I could get them prepared and put in baggies to take to work. :) Like I said, so far so good. If anyone else is going through Kaiser and is on this diet, let me know! I have a few recipes that I have come up with that use the foods that are allowed and I would love a recipe buddy :) Anyone else just looking to lose some pre-op weight, feel free to give this a try. It's a very do-able diet. Actually, it is suitable for post-op as well. Anyways, just thought I would share with everyone! :)

Thanks for sharing your information.

I have Kaiser also, but I am in Maryland. They put us on a liquid diet two weeks before surgery.

Hi MLD,

I was sleeved at Kaiser Fremont on 5/17. I followed the pre-op diet with small cheats once per week for three months and lost 32 lbs. I did feel hungry when I first started it, but after a while I didn't. I really love Kaiser's approach to WLS with lots of planning ahead of time. I felt healthier and more prepared, which made me a lot more comfortable about having such a radical procedure.

Good luck on your journey!

Lynda

Hi!! Yeah, it does seem like a lot. It is definitely easier to pre-plan out the meals ahead of time. That way you already know what you are having. There is no guess work, there is no cheating. I have found that when I don't have a set meal planned out, I tend to want to add in extra stuff. Which is no good. lol

I did end up making a homemade chili with half lean ground beef and half ground turkey. I halved the amount of Beans in the recipe and added lots of stewed tomatoes. I have had a problem getting all my servings of vegetables in, so I actually boiled a ton of veggies (zucchini, carrots, onion, anything I could find in my fridge) in some beef broth and used my emulsion blender to make a veggie puree. I have added that puree to chili, spaghetti sauce and Soups with no issue :) I don't even taste them and I get my extra serving of veggies.

Also, I don't know if you have a trader Joe's near you but they have a lot of really convenient frozen chicken and easy meals that are low carb. I bought their frozen chili lime chicken burgers and they are pretty good!

For me, it's all about variety, so I've just tried to mix and match meals. You want chicken for Breakfast? Go for it! lol.

Also, I made some meatballs and I used half lean ground beef, half ground turkey and I used grated parmesan instead of breadcrumbs. I weighed them out into 4 oz. servings and when they baked, they were exactly 3 oz. each. :) I froze half of them for later. One meatball = one meal's worth of Protein. That has been my favorite recipe so far.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
