Lactose Free Protein Powder

Recommended Posts

I'm feel quite sure I am not the only person to ask this question or have this problem. Since the surgery I have become extremely lactose intolerant. This is complicated by the fact I've never really liked the taste or texture of meat. I will eat some grilled chicken and I am beginning to enjoy some kinds of fish. But the idea of eating meat everyday for the rest of my life is pretty gross. So pre-surgery I was using a whey Protein from GNC as a supplement. I tried using is post sugery with absolutely disastrous effects even with the lactose pills.< /p>

I tried the local health food store for a spirulina based protein vanilla sample. I have to say that was gross. Generally I can just power through something if it must be done. Nothing could

make that particular brand palatable. My best description is it smelled like a piece of lettuce threw up. So incredibly gross. So I find myself in dire need of help. I really need something

that isn't too horrible but also won't break my bank.

Any suggestions at all would be welcome. Thanks in advance.

The farther you get out the less you want to rely on Protein shakes to get your protein in. That being said there are many products that have protein besides meat.

Cottage cheese, cheese of different kinds, greek yoghurt has more protein than regular yoghurt (these products should be fine for lactose intolerance as the lactose sugar is more or less broken down for you). Try a sample of cheese from your local grocer and see how your body reacts. Its more of a trial and error when it comes to lactose intolerance. Lactaid milk, soy milk, almond milk.

Then there are the Beans, lentils and nuts of different kinds. Just google high protein foods and you will find an interesting list of foods.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
