Protein Shake Help!!!!!

Recommended Posts

I did a smoothie once during pre-op and it didn't taste very good, plus it had like 600+ calories. I think that's too much for a Protein shake.

My favorite Protein shakes are the EAS shakes - you can get them for $4.99 (package of 4 pre-made shakes) at Target. You can also get them at the grocery store and the pharmacy, though I have found that they are WAY more expensive than at Target. I also got some sugar free Carnation Instant Breakfast, that tastes pretty good and it has a decent amount of Protein when you mix it with milk. Unfortunately, they don't sell the sugar free version at any grocery stores near me so I have to get them online.

I have tried so many Protein drinks and powder and I HATE almost all of them!! I can not stand the Protein taste!

However, I just recently got turned on to one that is REALLY GOOD and the protein taste is totally undetectable!!

It is called Pure Protein and you can get it at Walmart or Target. It is only like $18.00 for a huge thing of it. The vanilla is what I got and it is soooo good!! There is also 26 g of protein in each scoop. When I mix it with my soy milk it yields like 35 g of protein! KILLER!! :)

They also have RTD cans with all different flavors at Vitamin Shoppe and Absolute Nutrition. You can also get them at Amazon.com. The strawberry Cream, vanilla, Cookies and Cream and Peanut Butter are the ones that I have tried and they are all THA BOMB!! There are 35 g of protein in each RTD shake!

They are by far the best I have tried and believe me I have tried a lot. They are not too thick and taste amazing! I drink one everyday! They are soooo good. They sell them by the 12 pack and single cans. Go get one today!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
