I found this amusing

Hiya Sue,

It really is a great feeling that isn’t it ? It just shows how it takes our brains a while to catch actually register that we can possibly fit into something that isn’t our usual huge size. We see that smaller number on a thing and automatically think it isn’t for us.

Just think as well, a lot of online stuff can tend to be a bit of a smaller fit anyway so maybe a high street 16 might be good to go for you.

This made me laugh, I hope it tickles you.

I got my Take That outfit sorted out about a month ago. I decided to have a trying on session on Monday night. I’d got a top and a pair of black pants. The top was fine, the pants wouldn’t stay up and the legs were so baggy they looked like Crusty the clown should be wearing them !!!! I spent Monday evening totally re-modelling them. I had to take the legs in and run some knicker elastic through the waist so they wouldn’t fall down when I was bouncing with Robbie on Tuesday !!!!!

The moral of the story is of you’ve got to buy anything for a special occasion, do it the day before and not the month before !!!

Love and Hugs

HAHAHAAAAAA... I have been the SAME!! I did suss that bit out though and I haven't bought anything... going shopping on Sat for the big day on Wednesday!

I did order a pair of Bench jeans in a size 16, but the skinny style... well they were half price and I thought what the hell.... anyway, the waist was too BIG and they were too tight on the KNEES!! WTH... I think my knees are probably the smallest, boniest, skinniest part of me...lol! Needless to say, those babies are going back!

I can't wait to have a good old bounce with Robbie.... hmmmm, hope he recognises me now I am in a smaller size...lol xx

Coops I know exactly what you mean when you say no one else really gets it! I bought a skirt for my sisters rehearsal dinner and the 12 was too big, The 10 fit perfectly and I was thrillled with myself, told people and they were like "thats nice" but everyone here knows what it took to get there and how excititng it really is. GREAT JOB!! We do get it!

So, I needed to get some tee shirts, for training and general/casual wear as mine are now like tents.

I ordered them on line and was brave enough to order a size 16 (UK). When I took them out of the wrappers, I looked at them and thought 'Hmmm... too small for me!' I showed them to my hubby and he said 'They might have to go back love, they're a look small!' Feeling a tad dejected I tried them on, I had nothing to lose, and I was in the comfort of my own home... and here is the good bit!

THEY FIT ME! Yay!!!

Ok, ok, they fit where they touch, but I can certainly wear them in public... What a great moment of victory! Put a smile on my lil face after a few stressful weeks!!

GOOD FOR YOU COOPS!!!! Maybe hubbie needs to be shipped back! What did he have to say for himself after you showed him that they fit?? Men! I'm proud of you COOPS!!!!! (doing the happy dance for Coops!)

I'm still too shy (not confident) to shop in a store. I won't do it. . I still order out of the catalogue from Roamans or Lane Bryant. (dumb huh?)

Hey thin... thank you... love the happy dance!!

Oh the hubby, ain't he a star!! Gotta love him; he just looked and said 'Wow!'. I think he was as gob smacked as I was...lol!

I know what you mean about going into a clothes shop, I still feel out of place when I am in the 'normal' range section and I get paranoid that people are looking at me and thinking 'Yea love, you ain't got a chance to fit into that!' And then there is a part of me that realises they haven't even noticed that I am there... weird! I am going clothes shopping on Sat, and I am going to try and embrace my demons... I have to come home with something for the Take That concert, so I have to try things on!!!

Wish me luck!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
