Ok so I have really been watching my blood sugar in preparation for my surgery on Thursday. If you have seen my other posts...

My blood sugar was 356 last tuesday :( Im now on Metphormin, and it has come down to 256 on Thursday.. 232 yesterday.. and this morning it was 203!!!!!!!! Even after dinner today .. it was 222. I know its not GREAT, but I am so thankful its coming down.

I usually am super thirsty.. and now.. im sitting here drinking lots of Water (i heard its good when trying to lower your sugar levels) and I can barely get any down :(

Is this because my sugar is now coming down?

Please everyone pray for me! I have a follow up with my pcp on Tuesday morning for a final check of my sugar.. he said if its not 200 or below they may delay my surgery :( But isnt that up to my surgeon? I would think also.. if its clearly coming down a lot in less than a week... that maybe that will prompt them not to cancel it :( I am so scared. So please cross your fingers/toes/eyes whatever for me lol :)

Tamz, it is GREAT! Look what you have done in one day, down by almost 30! Your PCP and surgeon work in conjunction with eachother for your benefit. So they will confer and decide if you are good to go. Keep doing what you are doing and I think you will be ok. Who knows, tomorrow it may be down ANOTHER 30 :)

The thrist is gone because your sugars are going down. Thirst is a symptom of high blood sugar. Keep drinking, keep walking and most especially, keep us updated.

Everything is crossed that can be crossed for you.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
