I don't want to get a big head!

Recommended Posts

Ha! I bet you thought I was going to brag about something.

What I want to know is why do many GB patients wind up with a disproportionately large head? Star Jones and Al Roker are the two that come to mind. Is this something that happens to GBers only, or does it happen to bandsters too? And is there anything that can be done to prevent it?

I think they look like that because they loose so much weight and now their bodies don't match their heads.

If you work out and build some muscle you should be ok. I think.. LOL

Maybe it is an argument for a genetic pre-disposition to obesity?

Your skull doesn't just grow or shrink, it just IS.

If you were "meant" to be big and you aren't, it would follow that your head would be disproportionate, right?

What hairstyle could we shoot for? My head is HUGE already.

I guess I've noticed that but never put it into words. I think it's because they waste away. But their skull doesn't change. There's not much meat on a skull as compared to the rest of the body. My head is already huge. I am doomed.

I worry about the big head issue too...my daughter and I refer to them as lollipops. I will trade my big ass for a big head any day though! *LOL*

Almost anyone who is really thin looks like a bobble head. Case in point - Vanna White. Personally, I think it is a very unattractive look, but apparantly one that is quite popular in the entertainment industry.

I always worried about my head looking too small in my teens. I was about 5kg less than I am now, but I thought I was enormous of course, and I had short hair. I do have a relatively small head too.

My son has the Hutchinson head, my god is ENORMOUS. My MIL has it too - my husband to a lesser degree. I look at Fraser next to his friends and his head is quite literally 1/3 as big again. You dont notice it much unless you compare, but head sizes really can vary.

Jacqui, you crack me up!!!

I know what you mean - Ive noticed it too.

But I havent noticed it on banders as much as other wls patients, although I dont come in contact with other banders very often.

Interesting though.

Jennifer Aniston has a big head too. My fiance, who's all bean-pole like, has a pretty big head as well.

I think that GB, their body shrinks so fast we don't have time to get used to their head in proportion to their body as they lose... so when they shrink down to goal within a year or less, it looks like they have a big head.

Has anyone seen "So I Married an Axe Murderer"?

I have that conversation in my head...you know the one... "He'll cry himself to sleep tonight on his tiny little pilla"

"I mean look at the size of that thing! it has its own weather system! It looks like an orange on a toothpick!"

I LOVE that movie. We just watched it the other night in fact.

I don't think it has to do with how we perceive them, because I have met people that I never knew or saw before, and noticed the way their head and face were HUGE for their body, only to find out that they had GB, just like I had predicted.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
