will I ever get sleeved????

Recommended Posts

Maybe I'm feeling sorry for myself or something but I'm beginning to feel like I'll never get sleeved. I started this process in April but had been thinking about it for the last 2 years. Now that I know for sure I really want the surgery, it seems like it's going to take FOREVER to get it done. I don't want to live another day in this horribly fat body. I want to have my sleeve NOW. Anyone else feeling this way? Help please....

Amen sister!!! Same here...literally being wheeled into surgery when they found my potassium was too low. Now have 3 docs fighting about what to do and I think it was not enough electrolytes on preop diet!!! TOTALLY EXASPERATING!!! But, I am using the time to decide that this FAT body is OVER!! Just eating a healthy diet and plugging along in other areas. The point is we WILL get sleeved. Just hang onto that for now. I feel your pain!!! If that helps at all!! :) Joan

Yes, a lot of us felt the same way pre-op and I know there is still people waiting to get sleeved that are in the same boat you are. I had to wait longer than most people for various reasons, so I can totally relate!! But it's happening for you it looks like, you're jumping through the hoops of hell with insurance, but it will all be worth it!! Try not to get discouraged and keep the faith. I just kept busy trying to make changes that I knew I would have to make after surgery. Smaller portions of food, lower carb, adding a little exercise and trying to be more active, and all that jazz. It helps get you prepared and benefits you Healthwise too. I figured I may as well make the best of it.

Don't get disheartened cuz it will be here before you know it and you will be sleeved!!

:)

Preop felt like the longest time of my life. From the point where I filled out my application with the doctor until the surgery it was 11 months for me. If I had lost the preop weight properly and didn't procrastinate then I could have had it done within 8 or 9. But I realize that I usually do everything the hard way. :P Hang in there!

So the scheduling nurse called me back today and said my surgery is scheduled for 8/9/11. Before I was just hoping for that date but now I'm actually on the calendar. Now of course this is dependendent upon all my other doctor's appointments going ok and being cleared for surgery. I'm excited to have this date but anxious that it won't happen for some reason. ugh.

I feel the same way. I've researched it for 2 years...I finally have the money to pay for it...and I still don't have my date. Hopefully within the next 3 weeks I'll have it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
