I haven't been sleeved yet, but what you are feeling is completely normal. Many people here have had nerves before the surgery and have had the second thoughts. I don't have a date yet, and I am nervous and am constantly second guessing myself.

Just remember the reasons why you wanted to have this surgery. Chances are good that you have been trying to loose your extra weight many times in the past, so you know that just simply dieting won't work. The sleeve is a tool that you can use to help you loose the weight forever by assisting you in changing your "bad" habits into good and healthier habits. It's not a magic bullet, but I suspect you already know that. You have made a commitment to change your life and become healthier for a reason. Remember that reason. Keep repeating your reasons to yourself over and over again. It really does help with the nerves. I know it helps me.

By the way, congratulations on making the decision and getting to this point. Good luck with the surgery. :)

I had my sleeve done on January10th. I am 5'6" and weighed 220 lbs. I have yo-yo dieted for years and keep gaining it back every time.

My problem was with Portion Control. I am now almost 5 months post op and have lost 64 lbs. I would like to get to 135 but only have 2.5 lbs to go to make it to the high end of a Normal BMI/Weight. I honestly feel like I will be able to keep the weight off this time and that the sleeve has given me a tool that will last me the rest of my life.

I know this is a HUGE step and I also felt the same way you do. I have never had a hard time loosing weight - it has just been keeping it off. With the sleeve I now know I will be able to be successful. I feel so much better physically and mentally knowing the weight has been lifted of my entire body.

I wish you success and hope you will feel comfortable with your decision and be able to move forward with peace of mind.

Take care.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
