Stephanie MG 0 Posted July 3, 2006 Hi all. My surgery was 10 days ago and I have been scared to try and take my Calcium capsules, my Dr. said to open them up and put them in my Protein Shakes I tried that but it tastes sooo gritty, YUCK. So. I swallowed two yesterday, then I sorta burped and all the powder was up in my throat, REALLY YUCK.:mmph: I figured mabey I had too muck liquid in my tummy, so I tried this morning on a completley empty stomache and the same thing happened. Im still on a liquid diet, so I dont know if this happens with food sometimes or what? Any suggerstions? Any liquid calcium, I am supposed to have 3500 mg's a day! Other than that everything has been going great!! Just wish these incisions would go away! Im still quite sore with certain movements. THANKS for any help!! Jammin & Losin 1 Posted July 3, 2006 stephinie ask your Dr about chewing Tums for the extra calcium..instead of the capsules! My Dr. told me to chew 2 every morning and I never have problems with that! By the way congrats and welcome to bandland and I'm wishing you lots of success!!! Keep us posted on how you are doing!! juliegeraci 7 Posted July 3, 2006 Stephanie, I agree with her. YOu can go to chewable via another route. If you can't get chewable then get a pill type so you can split them. I have been splitting my meds and so far I haven't felt them go down. Good luck. Welcome to bandland.
seppi 0 Posted July 3, 2006 I bought chewable Calcium, they don't taste too bad. I also got a free sample of some chocolate, sugar free chewables, not too bad.
maryb 1 Posted July 3, 2006 I put my capsules in my mouth and let them disolve to the soft mushy stage before swallowing with Water.< /p>
mousecrazy 2 Posted July 4, 2006 How about Viactiv calcium chews? I have some that are chocolate mint flavored and they taste pretty good!
beachgirl 2 Posted July 4, 2006 Yes, there are the new caramel, and chocolate calcium chews and they are like a treat. They have them at Walmart and Sams club. Very very good and much better than a big ole pill. Sherri
Irish Girl 3 Posted July 6, 2006 I got a liquid Calcium at costco. It doesn't taste to bad straight out of the bottle, but it does taste good when mixed with Crystal Light. I got the ok from the doc. May want to check that out.
Stephanie MG 0 Posted July 7, 2006 Hey, Irish girl Thanks for the advise, I saw my Dr today and he gave me some info about a liquid Calcium so one less thing to worry about  PS. I think red haired girls rock too!!
DonnaB 3 Posted July 7, 2006 I put my capsules in a little glass of Water and swirl it around for a minute. If you look at it closely you can see it get a kind of saggy look to it - kind of like an overripe grape looks. At that point it's soft and slippery enough to swallow. No problems. gentlespirit 1 Posted July 7, 2006 I love the Viactiv chewables...I use both the Calcium and the Multivitamin. They taste like a treat, so I take them following my lunch or dinner like "dessert". Emily
showboatgirl 0 Posted July 12, 2006 I order Adora Calcium over the internet. It is like a piece of candy. You can get milk chocolate or semi sweet chocolate. There is a small number of calories in each one--but it is worth it. I couldn't stand the gritty chewable calcium or tums. They are sort of expensive, but so was lap band surgery. We're worth it. babyjessica 0 Posted July 12, 2006 At the recent Nurse Practitioner's conference Nature Made gave me a sample of chewable Calium 600mg per table with 200 I U Vitamin D. They are a cherry, orange, mixed berry. They taste really good. I haven't looked for them at the drug store but look for them at a drug store. rachele 0 Posted July 12, 2006 Citracal has 4 types of chewables. chocolate, Chocolate Mint, Lemon Creme and Caramel. They are like little chocolates, coated outside, soft inside. The Viactives are more like caramels (chewy, ya know?). These have 500 . calcium citrate plus D.
