I had the sleeve done in March of this year and I have lost 50lbs.. The past 6 weeks have been really slow for weight loss and I don't know why.. I've only lost 14lbs in 6 weeks! I know I haven't done the exercising (my work schedule just hasn't alotted for it) but I would think that I would be down more than 50 lbs by now...

Is this normal? I'm also starting to loose hair! I take all my Vitamins and have even added Biotin, I'm getting my Protein but I also think I'm loosing muscle mass!!!! I'm just really down right now with everything!

Hi. Don't be down on yourself. Fifty pounds is an awesome feat! 14 lbs. in six weeks is a little more than two lbs. a week. That is actually excellent weight loss! I haven't gotten my sleeve yet but from what I hear weight loss does gradually slow down as you lose more and more weight. Don't be discouraged. You are doing well. Especially from the standpoint of someone without a sleeve. And as far as losing muscle- if you aren't eating the proper protien and strength training then you most feasibly are losing muscle mass. That happens when anyone loses weight without training- sleeve or no sleeve. Stay focused, stay encouraged, and try to do some strength training exercises at least 20 mins. two times a week to preserve your muscle mass. Good luck!

As I understand it, nothing will prevent the hair loss, but it will grow back.

50 pounds lost is a great thing!

Keep in mind that you are still losing. It's only been 3 or 4 months - and you have lost 50 pounds in that time! There will be times that the weight will come off slower, and other times that it just flies off. Also, as you approach your ideal weight, the weight loss slows.

I know it is hard to get exercise in, but could you walk at your lunch time? That would get some exercise in. Also, if you have a yard - try getting a push mower and mowing the grass that way instead of using a rider. Take the steps instead of an elevator if you can. Park the car a bit further from the door when shopping, so you have to walk further. All of these things are small changes that you can make and get more exercise in.

Keep your chin up and focus on the positive (I know it's hard). You've lost 50 pounds forever in a short amount of time. That is reason to celebrate!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
