 Hi,

I had my sleeve done on 5/20/11 and I'm having major regrets! Didn't know the gas would be so bad and trust me I WALK, WALK, WALK, WALK! I'm so miserable! Water taste nasty and I even tried crystal light and it's nasty too. I was doing good with the sugar free popsicles now I'm having problems keeping those down as well now. The Protein Shakes are awful! I know I'm not getting enough protein/fluids and sometimes I get so weak I feel as if I'm going to faint! I'm scared, and depressed, and thinking I've made the wrong decision. I didn't know it was going to be this HARD! I can't keep ANYTHING down: (water, popsicles, broth, gatorade, eggs, yogurt, Jello, etc). What should I do. I've been vomiting for three days now! Calling my doctor first thing Monday morning. Any suggestions?????

Seeking any HELP!!!

I would call your doctors office right now and see if there is a doctor on call that can talk to you. If not I would go to the ER. You should not be vomiting everything you put inside of you. You are probably dehydrated but there may be something else going on that is causing this. I wouldn't wait till morning. Call your doctor now or get to the ER!

Please update and let us know what happens. Take care!

I completely agree with sarsar....call the surgeon tonight. They should be on-call 24/7, if there is no one available go to the ER!

In the meantime, have you tried sucking on ice chips?

Hi Sarsar and Caliblonde,

Update: Went to the doctor today and he determined that my sleeve does not like cold temperatures so suggested I do liquids at room temperature. He also prescribed me a different med for the nausea and also something for heartburn. He says it's just going to take time and wants me to try the pureed/soft diet again! Hopefully, these suttle changes will make a major difference!!!

And yes the ice chips help me get Fluid in.....

Justbnme,

I am 2 yrs post op and it will get better! I had the same problem for a month and a half after surgery, it was horrid! I had a hard time with anything cold, and my pyloric valve was also irritated and would spasm not letting anything down, or if it did get down it would come back up. I ended up in the hospital with an IV it took 3 bags (in 3 hours, which is insane) to get me to where I did not faint every time I stood up. I ended up having to literally drink a teaspoon at a time, but once I got my tummy used to that I was able to increase to a sip, then 2 sips, and within about 1 1/2 weeks I was able to drink normal (sleeve) sips and take food also! You just have to baby yourself for a bit, every persons tummy is different and some like ours have a harder time, but it is sooo worth it! I lost all my weight the first 7 mths and I am so glad I had the surgery! I am happier and more healthy, don't give up! As for smoothies and Protein Shakes there is a wonderful one called MaxPro I like the orange kind, but they have tons of flavors...try it out! You can find it here http://www.maxmusclestoreonline.com/index.php?cPath=23_13&sort=2a&page=2

Best of luck!!!

I hope you are feeling better with the meds and room temp drinks.

I cannot do any Protein drinks either, haven't been able to get one down since surgery.

Also know that some people have increased swelling post op and this can make things extremely difficult to get anything down. The swelling lets up around 6-7 week mark and life becomes much easier. I ended up in the hospital at one point for a week and a half because I was so sick and in so much pain. Hopefully though yours is just a case of not tolerating cold right now.

IF it continues go to the ER, its always better to be safe than sorry.

I'm so sorry that you've been having such issues. I had some awful gas when I got home and was walking a bunch. I ate GasX before going to bed and it was MUCH BETTER. I also don't like Water as much anymore. I feel like I get dry mouth from it. For me, Sobe Lifewater goes down great. So does chicken broth. I have been able to drink that so well from the beginning.

I'm glad you saw your surgeon. I was worried you might be dehydrated. If you aren't getting in the fluids and still feel nauseous, go to the ER and get an IV of fluids. Dehydration, especially w/ the weather we've been having, is a real concern so be careful!

Thanks for updating, I have been wondering about you.

It's interesting how everyone is different. I can't stand room temp. things. I like my drinks and Protein shakes cold with ice and they go down so much better for me! I like my Soup warm.

If you still have trouble getting liquids in I would still suggest going and getting fluids. I had 2 bags a week ago and ever since then I have felt wonderful and have been able to get in all my liquids and Protein Shakes.

Take care and keep us updated.

Hi Everyone!

Hope you all are having a great weekend thus far. I'm so grateful and thankful for the support, concerns, suggestions, etc. you guys offer! It really helps a lot to know you are not alone on this journey! Since going to the doctor things have been oh sooo much better. Decided to do away with the Protein shakes for now because they are just awful and I can't blend/mix them right even with fruit (lol-poor me)! I didn't realize eggs were so heavy in your stomach. My doctor approved apple juice just watered down and it's been the BEST thing since sliced bread. Today I had my absolute favorite thing in the world and it was a crab leg (well the crab cluster part anyway) with smart balance light butter spread melted to moisten the crab and oh my gosh....can you say GOOD! I've got to figure out how to make a Protein shake (protein shake mixing for dummies 101)!..Hehehe. Going to re-join the gym hopefully tomorrow and start working out on Monday (thinking swimming for now). Funny how I don't know you guys but I feel I know you guys! Again, thanks for the SUPPORT and I look forward to developing new friendships!

Be safe and Be Blessed!

Best Regards,

Eyeluvme4me

P.S. On a side note, how do I get me a ticker to show my weight loss??? Thanks in advance

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
