Tamz 8 Posted June 4, 2011 So the blood sugar is coming down.. but not enough Tuesday it was 356...... my pcp put me on 500mg of metformin.. and Friday (yesterday) it came down to 285. He told me to start taking 1000mg starting yesterday.. and i checked it this morning its reading 256 Its down but NOT ENOUGH .. I am so scared they will postpone my surgery on Thursday. I really need some help on how i can lower this bad boy between now and Tuesday.. bc that is when my last follow up with my PCP is regarding my levels. I know i have to stay low on carbs.... but my surgeon has me on a low fat no meat (Protein shakes instead) diet. and when i find things with little carbs, there is more fat....... and vice versa. I wonder what would happen if i took 1500mg of metformin instead? SOMEONE pleaseeeeeeeee help
KellyL 173 Posted June 4, 2011 Thats only a couple days, so other than going liquids only, I don't know what else to suggest. I would not advise increasing meds without dr approval. I'm sorry, I know you are worried, but your health has to come before the surgery. I hope it lowers in time for your surgery, I know it's frustrating!! Good luck! KellyL 173 Posted June 4, 2011 broth Sf popsicles Sf Jello G2 Water Crystal light Basically anything that you can see through, that is sf. Stay very hydrated if you choose to do this. This shouldn't be harmful, because a lot of us even did the Clear Liquids for a wk or more and you only have today and tomorrow left? I suppose I need to add a disclaimer here: I am not a dr or nurse. I hope whatever you choose to do works!!! Good luck, I am rooting for you!
Raine 170 Posted June 5, 2011 Tamz let me know how it is working out, I feel for you and what you are going through. But do not up your dose unless the doc gives you the go ahead.
Nancy Rivers 24 Posted June 5, 2011 Do not change the dosage of metformin without the doctor telling you to do so. Cinnamon is supposed to help with blood sugars.
