Im on metformin for blood sugar and i am worried when i go for my f/u with my pcp that it wont have lowered enough ( yesterday was first f/u since i started 500 mg on tues and it came down by 70) .. I am now taking 1000mg.. but what if i add one more pill and take 1500mg.. will that not be a good idea??

I need this under 200 by tuesday as as of this morning it was 285 :( :(

Why do you need your BS under 200 by Tues? Your dr should be adjusting your dose. If you adjust your own, he won't know what your taking or how to properly adjust the dose.

Cheryl is 100% right...let your doc do it. How else will they know you are getting a therapeutic level? Changing the dose of any prescription is unsafe and you may have unwanted side effects....not sure what they all are for metformin but do know it can cause diarrhea, and can affect the liver.

I also don't understand what you mean by needing it below 200 by Tuesday. Have you already been sleeved? If so, you'll probably eventually come off the metformin...just be patient and let your doc take you off when your body is ready.

I have not been sleeved yet, my surgery is Thursday however.. my PCP said if its now below 200 by my follow up on Tuesday then there may be a chance its cancelled.

I would call your doctor... Mine had me on 2000 per day.. But if I had to actually go somewhere where I could not freely get to a bathroom QUICKLY, I didn't take it. Sounds like you are monitoring your levels with a blood glucose thingee so i would do that after you eat each time, and see if anything you are eating is causing an increase. I am no pro, but that is what I would do.. Maybe add another 30 minutes of exercise into your day and more Water. I would also make sure you are spreading out the met throughout the day. I can't WAIT till i don't have to take that stuff with those awful side effects! Please let us know how it is going for you!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
