1 month Post-Op with 35 lbs. lost.

Recommended Posts

Well, I am down 35 lbs. from 1 week liquid diet to toady my 4 weeks post-op. I believe this is called the Honeymoon period. I am glad for the loss, but I don't think I want to lose this much next month also. That would make me more than half way to my goal weight loss in 2 months. I am expecting to stall out a bit or gain a bit once I start my soft solids on July 1st. Is this what most experienced sleevers experienced? When did your honeymoon period end, and why do you think it ended?

Hello!!! Congrats~!!!

I had a similiar question a week or so ago about the "honeymoon" stage... I hear people refer to it, but wondered what exactly is it>?? From what I gathered it is the first six months after surgery.. hopefully others on the board can join in!

Statistically people lose most quickly during the first 6 months or so. Individuals will differ of course. People who need to still lose after that but it tends to slow down more. You're in good shape if you are halfway there after one month.

If I might ask, what was your beginning BMI and what BMI do you want as your goal? The first 10-15 lbs aren't too difficult to lose, even before surgery, if you have following a low carb diet because it is mostly Water. I am down 52 lbs in the past 11.5 weeks since surgery, not counting the liquid diet before hand. I am steadily losing 3-5lbs/week but I don't micromanage my carbs. I just eat healthy carbs along with my Protein b/c I find I need them with my workouts. I think it is important to do weight training for lean muscle along with aerobic exercise so you don't have that scrawny look that some people have when they lose weight too quickly. I haven't had a stall yet but there are expected changes in variances in weight loss because the body adjusts. Some weeks I have gone done inches but not as much on the scale, and visa versa. Good luck!

well, my honeymoon ended almost before it got started! I lost 10 lbs the firs 2 weeks, then hit a brick wall!!! I've not moved the scales at all since then. Of course, at least I've not gained like some poor souls have done. I'll keep my head up and hope to break this stall soon............it's totally maddening!!!

Steven the honeymoon period is the entire maximized weight loss period- usually 6 months to sometimes as long as 9 months- and it is recommended that you try to follow all the principles (Protein, low carbs, fluids, Vitamins (you and I both apparently have trouble with this! ;-P) and exercise ) during this period to take full advantage of this easier to lose time before it becomes harder to lose.

You have lost a LOT in the first month- but I doubt you will lose that much this month- that is unlikely. Your body may pull in and you may have a "stall" though if you read the article about the chemistry of stalls I think I have posted about five different place, including my week 9 post op video, it makes sense as your body needs to build another glycogen store and it pulls Water in to help.

But listen, if you have read about some of the people who have lost , say, 10 pounds total in three months- well I wouldn't complain about worrying you will lose another 35! For real? Tell me when you have a real problem! ;-P xoxo

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
