STALL STALL STALL!!!!!!!!! OMG!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I am exactly one month post op today. I have so far lost 28 pounds since I began my journey. 18 pounds were post op and the rest pre-op. I am down to 270 pounds as of today, but I have been at this weight for the past two weeks now!!!!!!!!!!! I have a feeling I am not eating enough, but how can I eat enough if nothing else fits!!!!!!!!!!!! Here are my usual meals:

Breakfast: 1 Yogurt

Snack: Fruits or Wheat thins

Lunch: Baja salad from Wendy's (Chili and greens) I eat about a quarter of the small order

Snacks: Fruits

Dinner: chicken but I can only fit in about 3 oz.

Snack: Jello

(most meals can't fit in more than 3 oz.)

I have tried other foods like the subways steak sandwich loaded with veggies. I was able to eat a little less than half about 3 inches. (for dinner) but most of my meals are similar to those described above.

I am consuming enough Water. I drink 2 liters per day without fail. I am not doing rigorous workouts but I do try to walk more often than usual. I know bad right!! I keep telling myself I will start my work outs soon but haven't yet. I think maybe the workouts my break my stall? How long were your stalls?

STALL STALL GO AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am dying to be in the 260's already!

Any suggestions?

I know stalls are frustrating!! I would trade the wheat thins, fruit, and Subway bread for things like string cheese, laughing cow cheese wedges, greek yogurt (with something mixed in it), cottage cheese. You're doing great on your liquids!!

Are you counting your carbs/calories/proteins at all? I see what you've eaten and the fruit and the wheat thins are lots of carbs. I would recommend journaling to see a trend in what you're eating vs how much you're losing.

You're only a month out and are able to eat 1/2 of a Subway sandwich? Wow. I'm 6wks out and am still on Mushies until next week. I am able to eat soft meats and deli slices but havent (and dont want to) try bread yet. Too many carbs and scared it might get stuck.

I haven't been sleeved yet but I'll share what my nutritionist told me. The goal is to push the Protein and keep carbs to about 20g. You can do 30 to 40 grams of carbs if you are active! This will maximize weightloss. Then, once in maintenance, you can add back things and see how the body does. I believe this is similar to what others are saying above. I think the suggestion to record everything you eat is really good! I would record my weight and excercise too, maybe even how I'm feeling that day. Then you'll be able to track what was most effective, what tended to slow you down. I think I'm going to start that right away. My date is June 6!!! Yikes, coming up!!! :-)

@KellyL: I tried the subway once and it was just a couple of days ago, it was the first time I had bread and it was the flat soft bread toasted. I've done the cheese too but I am tired of eating cheese for Snacks so I switched to fruits. I am going to try to switch back to cheese and see if maybe it's the fruits. Wheat thins I usually have once every other day but I just looked at the box and realized they do have a lot of carbs! Yikes! Wheat thins to the garbage!!!

@StacyS: I don't count my daily intake of carbs/protein/calories at all. The first couple of weeks I was counting and I used to try to force myself to eat the quantities per day, even though I wasn't hungry. That's why my doctor suggested I should just eat when I am hungry and to stop counting. I will start counting again, hopefully it will help. As far as the subway sandwhich I am not able to eat half of one... I am able to eat half of a half ... a little bit less than 3 inches, which is less than half of the 6". My doctor took me off mushies this week, I haven't had a problem transitioning except when I forget to chew enough and it gets a little stuck. But when that happens I walk around for 5 mins and it usually goes away.

@mnbsleeve: Thanks for this information, very helpful... I think I am just going to start counting again. When I stopped counting that's about the time I stopped loosing. I really don't think I am eating enough....as before I tried to get all my daily Protein in even if I wasn't hungry. I don't do that anymore. I wish you much luck and success with your surgery! You must be so nervous and excited! I was! But don't worry, you will be fine!

I think counting carbs and making absolutely sure you get your Protein will really help you. The high Protein and low carb is a key factor in the chemistry of losing weight and making the most of this "honeymoon period" of weight loss. fruit is really high in carbs and when your body has carbs it wont turn to the fat cells for energy- it really needs to be pushed to do that!

Exercise is also key- and I know that is a tough one. Have you considered Water aerobics? It's a good workout and fun too. IN any case even long walks are good as long as you do it daily. I do a 45 minute walk every day and Water aeriobices 4-5 times a week now that I am at three weeks.

Also- I am interested in you being told just to eat when you are hungry- cause if I did that it would be never! I am never hungry- I just schedule my meals when I know they should be! Don't forget the grehlin is no longer being produced in your thumby (my word for our new tummies) and you may need to eat to live now that we no longer live to eat!

All that said- you will still stall now and again! This article helps explain the chemistry of a stall and why you can still be losing even when the scale is not budging...

I'm in a stall for 3 weeks now and its killing me. I am 6 weeks out. However, I know EXACTLY what I have been doing wrong. Too many carbs and basically too much food. To jump start things up again and most people will say this is wrong but I think I need to train myself again to get off of the carbs, I am going to do the shakes and yogurt during the day and have a meal at night. I am able to eat a lot more than most people on the board, but I do still feel restriction when I over do it. Hopefully this will help me move it again, along with putting in some sort of exercise!

Good luck!

Welcome back first of all. I was wondering about you!

I had stalled also...a couple of ppl recommended getting the Proteins to at least 70, carbs to 30 or under and Water to at least 80 ozs...it did get the scale moving, albeit slowly...but moving nonetheless.

i also track using fatsecret on my blackberry

tracking can be annoying but at least you know you're hitting your mark.

I haven't been sleeved yet but I track my foods via sparkpeople.com and livestrong.com. I also have these two apps on my blackberry. iPhone users may want to try the free app called loseit--a friend of mine uses this. Of course, all three you can track online for free.

I think it's just that dreaded 3 week stall (or thereabouts) and no matter what you eat or don't eat is not gonna stop it till it's ready to stop. The good thing is, those stalls always break, and you will be losing again in no time.

Good luck to yousmile.gif

@ Meggiep: Thanks for the article it was very informative. I started counting again today! Wish me luck!!

@ Raine:Good luck with your stall! I hope that with those mentioned changes you start loosing again soon.

@samantha209:Thanks girl! Nice to hear from you too! And you are right, tracking is annoying but I I will start making sure I have my Proteins in! Something has to give!

@LR6909: I have a similar Ap on my phone but I haven't been really using it. Maybe it's about time I did!

@StacyS: The Ap that I have on my phone is the same as yours, except that I haven't been using mine.

@Disney: Thanks! I hope so!

Thanks again everyone you were all so helpful!

The dreaded 3-5 week stall strikes again! Do a search on the board for "stall" and you will see that almost 100% of us had a stall from week 3 to week 6. It is normal - you are not doing anything wrong. The only thing you can really do to break it is wait. Your body is adjusting to the radical changes and this happens on your body's time.

Step away from the scale for a week and you will feel better :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
