I also dont understand. I only had surgery 5 weeks ago and this week have only lost 1 lb. I thought the weight would come off quicker, my Dr. actually said you should loose 1lb per day in the first 3 months and that is definitely not happening for me. I am only consuming Protein shakes, yogurt, cottage cheese and tofu and not loosing much weight. I am terrified what will happen when I get back to regular food if I am not loosing now.

First: Everyone (and I mean everyone) stalls around the 3rd week.

Second: It is insane to think your body is able to lose a lb per day for 3 months. Average weight loss after the first month or so (depending on how much you weight starting off) should be around 1-3 lbs per week and stall WILL happen.

Remember a pound is 3500 calories so to lose a lb per day your body must BURN 3500 per day. not possible if you are avg. It comes off quick in the beggining from Water weight etc.... but be prepared for the loss to slow to a normal healthy loss. I avg. 2 lbs per week with every 4th week slowing down to about a 1 lb loss. avg. 7 - 10 per month.

Keep it real folk.... this is not the "big red easy button". You still have to work at it and result will not be magical. Also, keep in mind, the faster you lose the less time your skin has to shrink back creating that dreaded saggy skin... slower loss will allow the skin to slowly shrink..

Hey everyone -- take it from someone who is almost 9 months post-op. You will stall. Trust me. At least once, probably more. I've done it 3 or 4 times now. A stall is defined as not losing weight for at least 2 or 3 weeks. If you didn't lose for one week, sorry to say this, but that's not such a big deal.

You WILL lose weight (if you follow the rules, of course). If you are in your first month, your body is still recovering. Give it time.

No, you will not lose a pound a day for 3 months. That's crazy. That's 90 lbs in 3 months. Nope, no way, UNLESS you have A LOT to lose.

I have currently lost 130 lbs. I did NOT lose 90 lbs in 3 months. I did lose 100 in just under 6 months.

Remember, this is a surgery -- you have to recover from it first, and then follow the rules so that you can lose at a steady pace.

DON'T WORRY, YOU WILL LOSE! :D

Not much news to report. They are happy with my progress. Even though it seems like I haven't lost anything in the last week or so I did lose 8lbs since the last time I was weighed at the doctors office. They reinforced eating Protein first and not to bother counting calories just making sure I get my protein and liquids in. Also, that I am getting some exercise every day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
