MystrysA 0 Posted June 2, 2011 My husband wants me to ask if anyone knows how things work AFTER a surgeon in Mexico performs a VS. If I happen to have some type of complication either on the flight home or after I'm back home will my Medicare/Medicaid cover me for treatment related to an out of the country surgery? Sorry, seems a silly question to me but he seems very VERY reluctant to go along with an out of the country surgeon. I hope someone has some info on this subject. Thanks ~K~
ybnormal 21 Posted June 2, 2011 At the very least, a hospital emergency room (for complications, which are rare but happen) legally has to treat you. Renee`
Foxbins 625 Posted June 2, 2011 I'd call and ask them. I did and my helath maintenance organization said they would treat "life-threatening" complications from any out-of-plan surgery no matter where it took place. Nevertheless, my PCP has done all my follow-up lab work post-sleeve and nobody has said boo about why I have had so many tests ordered.
MeMeMEEE 206 Posted June 2, 2011 Doesn't medicare/medicaid cover the surgery completely here in the US? Also, I know some who have had severe complications had trouble finding a Dr that would treat them here. A good place to ask would be the complications forum.
