What about Dr. Lopez in TJ

Recommended Posts

Hi Clady and WELCOME!

I havent used Lopez, but MANY others around here have. If you look on the top of this page, you will see a "search" feature. Try digging around there for info we have stored in the archives about Lopez. He's a popular one, so you should find lots of readings.

Good luck day after tomorrow (the 8th)!

Hi Clady! Did you do some research on Dr. Lopez? If so, what did you find out? I noticed that you haven't received very many responses on here & I think it's because there were some negative things said about Dr. Lopez in the past.

I don't have any experiance with him at all & can't tell you a thing. I am a firm believer in listening to FACTS & real personal stories. I am guessing that everyone here isn't giving a lot of response because they are hoping you look up some info. on your own & find out what you need to know.

He may very well be a fabulous doctor!! Let us know what you find out! :grouphug:

I will happily share MY experience with Dr Lopez. I need to go down for a check up. I have been having unbearable reflux again. I have also been drinking too much beer. Please message me if you need info.

Personally, after the things I have heard from his patients I wouldn't even use him as my dog's vetrinarian for teeth cleaning. Check out Delarla's threads about him. What a nightmare.

Dr. Lopez banded me and two months into my experience I changed doctors because the aftercare sucked big time. I had an emergent situation and could not get ahold of ANYONE for two weeks. Then when I did get ahold of him I was given amazingly horrendous advice that could have caused me more complications. I changed Doctors Immediately and haven't looked back.

He should be used with caution in my humble opinion. Sorry but you asked.

Many people have experienced erosion after having their bands placed by Dr. Lopez. Around the same time several of those bands were placed I too got my band from him. I lived in fear everytime I would hear of another erosion by one of his patience until I got my first endoscopy done earlier this year and everything checked out pretty good. If I had to choose over again, I would not have chosen this doctor. Erosions can be a statistical problem and may not be caused by that specific surgeon but countless people including myself were found to have random stitches left in from the origonal band surgery, evidence of mysterious other repairs, infection problems, etc. It really is getting cheaper in the US and I know of at least 2 surgeons in Oregon who are charging right around 11k and that includes a year of aftercare and fills. If you need any more information about Lopez you can pm me. Best wishes, Teresa

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
