Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this but I thought maybe you all could help me out.

I was sleeved on May 9, 2011 so I'm 4 weeks out and I'm still in pain on my right side. Mainly from the main surgical site the Dr took my tummy out from. I still have to hold my tummy up to walk around, to allievate the pain I feel.. I have not take pain meds since my first week home, and really don't want to take them either.

Since surgery I have only lost 18 pounds. Have not lost anything all of last week. I guess the dreaded 3 week stall...

I'm getting enough fluids in, I'm not yet up to 80grams of Protein, just can't fit that much in yet, but I'm now averaging 45 to 60 grams, so I'm getting there.

I want to start walking and get in some exersize, but I'm just in way to much pain, even taking a shower causes me a great deal of pain that I need to rest afterwards.

Did any of you experiance this pain so many weeks out and do you have any ideas on how I can heal faster?

Thanks so much,

Kim

I too was sleeved 3 weeks ago on May 9th. I have been having pain directly below my main incision. It is a burning/sharp pain. Mainly when I bend over or use my stomach musles to move. It is a lot better today, but for the past week has really been bothering me.

I googled it and found that it could be a torn stitch or the muscle they go thru to do the work is collecting scar tissue. I am not too worried about it as I do not have a fever and it is not red or irritated.

I did carry some groceries that were a litlle heavier than I should have, went for a 3 mile walk that probably didn't help and I sneezed really hard one day that really made me hurt!

I am quite sure it is nothing to worry about! Just a stitch!

If you are really concerned, call your Dr.

Kelly ;)

Hi Kim.

I was sleeved on 5/09 as well. I think you need to talk to your doctor. I didn't have much pain at all, only discomfort the first week or so. I didn't take any pain meds after I left the hospital. Now, I only get a little pain when I move really fast in an odd direction, for instance turning over in bed or today, crossing my legs in the other direction and my jean capris rubbed the incision where my drain was.

As for the stall, I too have not lost anything in the past week. I have actually have gained a pound or two.

Good luck and call your doctor about your pain. It never hurts to ask. Trust me, I called about my drain site and didn't like the first answer so I called again and sent pictures. I got the same answer, but felt much better afterwards.

Call your MD. I don't know why they are the last people we call when we have a problem. I'm the same way. I think we forget "who works for whom". We wouldn't think twice about calling our mechanic if we had a car repaired for making a funny noise and when we drove it home, the noise was still there. A surgeon is no different. If we hire them to do a service for us, and there is a problem with that service, then WE NEED TO CALL that service provider.

Just to be sure--call your Md.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
