Having a bad hair day

Recommended Posts

I think I'm needing some words of encouragement today. I knew the Hair loss was going to happen and I've been dealing with it pretty good, but today I'm feeling kind of yucky about it. I don't regret my sleeve at all and I happy with my loss (82 lbs since December 28th), but today lots of hair came out. So, I guess I just want to hear one of the board experts to say.....it will come back and I'm not going to go bald. :) Thanks for letting me get this little (and vain) frustration out of my system!

I am by no means a board expert, but I am dealing with thinking hair, especially at the temples. My hair dresser recommended Nioxxium scalp treatment and it is helping! I see new growth! We were going to try Rogaine next if the Nioxxum did not work. She also showed me some ways to repart my hair and pull hair forward. The hair dresser said it was good to mix up the parts so the fresh hair is exposed.

I'm no expert but I do know that hair loss is temporary, and it will grow back :)

Some people say Biotin helps, have you tried that? Also be sure you're getting all of your Protein in. I am having surgery next month and am considering starting Biotin pre-op....no idea if it helps but it probably can't hurt.

Congrats on your incredible weight loss!!

I take Biotin... its hard to find out the exact recommendation on amounts...a fellow WLS friend told me she takes 2 - 5000 mg gel tabs a day,,, so that is what I take and so far (fingers crossed tightly) I notice no difference in hair loss...

I bought my Biotin 5000 mg over the net, found them in a small little gel tab the size of a pea! So easy to swallow, no taste, high Biotin ... love it! I also found the exact same that I am buying over the net at Meijers - but I know not all states have Meijers stores.. Walmart does not carry the 5000 Biotin in the gel caps...

Good luck, hope it helps, seems to work for me...

Thank you for the comments. I think I just needed to hear it WILL come back. :) I have been taking Biotin, but I haven't always gotten all my Protein in. I had a period of time that it was tough for me to eat and I couldn't stand the protein shakes....but it's all getting better. Well, the Protein Shakes never got better. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
