2 weeks out- missing my Tabasco!

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I know it's early now, but I am an avid Tabasco person. Now that I am 2 weeks out, I seriously miss hot spices in my soups/ foods. When might it be safe to reincorporate spices and what did some of you sleevers reintroduce first? Don't want to injure myself!! :-). Thanks! Roz

Girl, I'm addicted to Tapatio n would never give it up!! I added it to my chicken broth immediately after surgery. I was never told it would be bad during the healing process...I'm 6wks out and am doing fine. I think its safe to use it whenever you want.

I love me some tabasco, and I think I added it as soon as I got to the mushy stage!

My tongue and stomach disagreed for about 6 weeks about my spiciness level, but as of today I eat anything and everything that makes me stomach tingle. I don't know why I had to wait so long though. My tongue said yes, but my stomach burned really bad if I ate anything spicy.

I love Salsa and Chipotle. I started using it at 2 weeks post op with no problems. The only thing I have noticed is everything sweet is now sweeter and anything spicy tastes even more spicy.

To be cautious I waited for about 4-6 weeks for spicy food. I missed it TONS!

I've been wondering about this too - I have a great recipe for a spicy enchilada Soup that I can do during the full liquid stage, but I'm unsure if my tummy will be able to handle the heat!

I'm two weeks out tomorrow and tolerate tobacco sauce well. It is my favorite. I have made the skinny girl buffalo wings and went well. I was only able to eat two of them but I tasted great!

I never gave up spices! Reintroduce them now and see how they treat you. I never would have made it through that extended liquids phase without spicy chicken broth or hot and sour soup!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
