Feeling guilty.. and worried!!

Recommended Posts

Ugh. . I feel so stupid and guilty! So.. my 2 wk pre-op low fat diet with NO meat .. started this past Thursday May 26, my surgery is June 9th. I have doing really good with it.. until today when i went to a BBQ! I KNEW i should have kept my butt at home to avoid temptation :(

I cheated....... I didnt have meat though, so I am at least happy about that. But... I did have baked Beans, and potato salad.. and some bread. I also had a cup of sweet tea.. not a full glass.

Is this going to totally screw me up??? I still have a week and a half before my surgery.. so I am hoping that if i really stay strict i'll be ok.. but i am so worried :( i feel like such a screw up right now I was almost in tears :(

Ugh... help.

You should be fine as long as you get back on track and stay there until your surgery. Forgive yourself and go on!!

You should be okay. Some people have no diet at all. Mine was 5 days. Just be diligent for the rest of your diet, increase your Water, decrease your carbs, and get in some Protein (not meat since you were told no meat)

Don't worry and don't beat yourself up! I cheated twice on my pre-op diet- once because I had to work a wedding- ten hours mon my feet shooting photos and moving around a lot and once the following week with the top of a piece of pizza (long story). My preop was Protein shakes and liquids. I lost 18 pounds pre-op and my doctor said my liver looked fabulous.

I am interested in the fact your pre-op is low fat instead of low carb- and no meat? Why not- don't you want high Protein? Is this your doctors diet? Seems a bit unusual!

It is low fat and no meat.. but i am on Protein Shakes twice a day - 30g of protein each. so im good... yes it is the drs pre op diet. Lots of veggies, fruit, and low fat as possible. I am so worried though that i screwed everything up :(

I agree that you probably didn't do any harm since you still have over a week to go. I would take this time to really think HARD about why you cheated. And more importantly, what steps you are going to take to insure that next time you can resist the temptation. After surgery, cheating can lead to leaks and lots of other BAD consequences so you need to have a plan in place.

I am seven weeks post-surgery. Since the two week pre-op diet I religously planned out exactly what I was going to eat the night before and set it in a special place in the fridge. No impluse or last minute decisions for me. I also told myself that I was NOT going to deviate since my health was at stake. I know it sounds really regimented, but it worked for me. I got to 270 pounds by mindless eating and that was the habit I needed to change. I also write down everything that I eat now. Its a pain, but I will probably need to do it forever.

I realized that what I did in the past had not worked and I needed to make some drastic changes for WLS to be successful. My PCP did her job. My surgeon did his job. My nutritionist did her job...and now I had to accept the responsibility to do my part. None of the others "cheated." They all gave me 100%. So I am not going to cheat either.

Just my thoughts.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
