I'm hoping for some advice... My surgery is scheduled for June 2. I started the liver shrink diet on 5/19 but did not follow it for 2 days. I feel so guilty and almost cancelled my surgery. I think most of all I am nervous about complications that could happen during surgery. Help!

I haven't been sleeved yet, but based on what others have said on here, I wouldn't worry too much about not following the diet for 2 days. If you are really concerned about it, contact your surgeon and see what he says about it. Keep in mind some doctors don't have their patients follow a special diet before the surgery.

Relax and think of the reasons why you made the decision to have this surgery. That will help calm you down I think.

Also keep in mind that the rate of complications from the surgery is really rather low - especially compared to some of the other types of weight loss surgeries, and definitely lower than something like an open heart surgery for example.

You will do fine with the surgery. :)

I agree with Nancy. Call and ask if you are worried but you will just fine. It's so hard bc it's such an emotional time! Hang in there you can do this!

I started my 2 week post op (liver shrink) diet on Thursday May 26 and it has been utter HELL. I will tell you ......... that the first 2 days were ridiculously hard, but if you stick too it, it will be much better. Today is my 3rd day and im not really even hungry. I drink lots of Water and have really really good low calorie/low fat/low sugar Protein shakes that literally taste like chocolate milk and a Cookies and cream shake lol

I think slipping up for 2 days isnt such a big deal... just hit it hard the rest of the way!!! You can do it!! Drink lots of Water, and eating cucumbers, and carrots are great fillers I've noticed :)

Good luck! Almost there!!! :)

Thank you for the advice and support! I'm a ball of nerves! :)

Tamz- Please share your shake recipe. :)

Its a mix from GNC called Pro Performance AMP Amplified Weybolic Extreme 60. 1 servicing is 3 scoops, and equal to 60grams of Protein. Of course you cant digest 60 grams in one sitting, so i split it --- twice a day 1.5 scoops each

It is SO GOOD. I have the chocolate and the Cookies and Cream.. they also have strawberry, and vanilla.. and I think coffee flavored too.

Best part ........ each of my servings (half of what the back of the bag states since im splitting their serving in 2) is 140 calories and of that, only 5 calories and .5 grams of fat. and 1 gram of sugar.

I LOVE IT... i really encourage everyone to try it. Its the leanest and tastiest I have found yet. :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
