Guest Jamesbabe94 Posted May 2, 2004 I am new to this site but I just got a letter from the insurance company today dening me for the 3rd time. I don't know which way to turn now. I want this more than I have wanted anything for a long time but I can't afford to self pay, I can't get a loan for that much because our debt ratio is to high. I suppose I will just have to start saving and hope and pray that my health will hold out that long. Do any of you have any other suggestions so that I can stop feeling sorry for myself and be productive? Lisa G
GeezerSue 7 Posted May 2, 2004 Denying you because _____? What's their reason? Do you and/or your husband work at a company which has a "Section 125" account for medical expenses? (Most people are used to seeing them used for child care.) Which prices can't you get a loan for? Any? The fees for LapBand run from around $8500 and up. Don't give up completely. Guest Jamesbabe94 Posted May 2, 2004 Thanks Sue for the reply, The denial is because they have an exemption for all weight loss treatment. Because they provide their own insurance and it is just managed by BCBS I was told I may be abel to get them to amend the exemption. That was what I was trying for. The surgeon I have chosen has a sef pay package that comes to around 14,000 but when I was injured on the job my employer didn't pay me for two years and we accumulated alot of loans etc. to make payments on other bills. When I took my employer to court all I got was a 750.00 a month disablity retirement pension I worked for County government and went to court at the same county probably could not have done any better because of that and I was tired of fighting. So we don't have bad credit just to much of it.
GeezerSue 7 Posted May 2, 2004 I understand, intimately, government disability retirement. So, that leaves selling stuff, and you can always replace it later. Can you move down on cars? Got a boat? Yard sale? The deal is, $14,000 ÷ 365 = $38.36/day. You can do that and have the money in a year!
La_madam 20 Posted May 2, 2004 Have you ever considered going to Mexico for your surgery? My insurance denied me and I had to self pay. The only way that I could afford it was to go to Mexico. There are many wonderful, capable and experienced doctors in Mexico who will do the surgery for 1/3 of the price then what it what cost you to self pay in the united states. Also the docotr I used you can get financing with a very reputable loan company (capital one) I had to finance a small portion of my surgery and my interest rate is not to high and my monthly payments are very affordable. It is something to consider. If I can be of any help with information about my doctor in Mexico please feel free to contact me Good Luck, Michelle 4/06/04 265/245/160ish Dr. Ortiz
