My doc said that I could have 1 cup of coffee per day now. I was so excited until I had a cup and it tasted terrible. So not addicted to caffeine anymore but I really used to enjoy the taste. Not so much anymore. Maybe it was just an aquired taste. Ohhhh well. :(

Quite the opposite here - I developed a taste for coffee post-surgery! And I started drinking beer, which I had always considered revolting!

I have had the same experience with coffee :( I loved it before surgery and it was a social thing too. I loved to have coffee with the hubby in the afternoon, or go to my parents for coffee on Saturday afternoon. Now, I can't stand the taste at all! I try to look at the bright side, I don't have to worry about getting addicted to caffeine again!! :)

I love my coffee, sitting with friends talking having coffee, (cream no sugar, please!) It did take me a few times before I really started to enjoy coffee. Just because you don't like it right now don't mean you will never again. I also love black tea which is good when my stomach don't want me to drink coffee.

I had a cup o'joe yesterday afternoon and it wasn't repulsive LOL. Finally! It is starting to taste like it used to. I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing :D

I was longing for my coffee too so last weekend I got a cup of Decaf at a shop while I was out. It was so strong I could not drink it. I don't know if it was that particular coffee or that I've lost the taste for it too.

I also love brewed ice tea.....no sugar. I brew it here and the blend has caffeine in it. So it's off for me for a brief time yet. I am almost worried that I will dislike the tea too now. I was really looking forward to Sunday morning's on my deck with the newspaper and a large ice tea. Somehow Water just isn't the same.

This is not something I gathered a distaste for. I've always loved black coffee and I still do. I drink it half-caff and it wakes me up enough so I haven't strengthened it at all.

I still love my teas as well - and enjoy some Stash Black Tea when my morning coffee isn't quite enough.

The Starbucks skinny vanilla coffee is good too but I get the Tall because I can't even finish that. It gets me buzzing!!!

I'm not supposed to have caffine but I'll drink a wee bit of coffee now and then. It does not taste the same to me either! I was a coffee-holic. Now I guess I'm on the wagon...lol. Its really funny how our tastes change!

One thing I forgot to mention when I posted how much I loved my coffee, not to be gross but I need to have access to a bathroom. So be careful!!! I also love tea when my stomach can't handle coffee. I'll have to try Stash Black tea, what is it compared to? Thx

Sorry to hear that, Raine! Maybe it'll keep tasting better as time goes on.

I really wonder about the "tastes change" thing. None of mine have. Everything I've had so far was exactly as enjoyable as it was post-op (minus the chewing to liquid and tiny sips part, of course).

It makes me wonder... is it more normal to have tastes change, or not? Could it be related to sleeve size? (Mine is euro, definitely bigger than current American/Canadian/UK/Mexican sizes). Could it be just the opposite of conditioning... like how it took quite a while to learn to like coffee/beer/soda to start with, and when you don't have them for a month or so, your tastes reset? (Definitely had that when I quit drinking diet soda, pre-sleeve. Afterwards, it tasted like lighter fluid!)

I also didn't go nearly as long as other folks before being able to drink coffee etc., another Euro difference.

No point to it, just curious :D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
