May 27th Sleevers - it's time!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I know at least two others joining me in spirit and having their sleeves done today too.

I'm in preop now, in the gown in bed watching tv. Was just told the surgeon is running about 3 hrs behind! How'd that happen, it's only 7am!!! Lol!

I'm a little nervous but have my wife here to comfort me, unfortunately I also have my mom here to make me nervous again!! When she got to our house this morning she said "are you sure you still want to do this?"...oy vey what a Jewish mother she is.

Anyways, how's everyone else doing?

JG

I'm one of those with you - also in bed watching TV. Best wishes! Everyone keeps telling me the first day is the hardest - it will be over before we know it!

glad to hear my felow 5/27s are doing well...i do have to say that the last 24 hours have been absolute hell for me. sleeping has been sporaic, comfort nearly non-existant, nausea, pain etc. I keep having these horrible fits with hiccups which is torture! I started on ice chips yesterday but even that made me have chest pressure! this morning they brought me brorth, crystal lite, and hot tea but even the smallest sip of anything was massively uncomfortable. Dr. came in to check on me and order me NPO (nothing by mouth, even ice chips. I've thrown up once and held back when i wanted to several other times.

They are keeping me an extra night in the hospital and as of now are pushing back my diet stages by at least a day or two.

Hope you are all having a better experience than me, but i'm gonna stay positive and keep on truckin.

Thanks,

Wow...I'm so sorry to hear that! I have to admit...stories like this scare me to death. I don't do well with pain or nausea...My stepmom is going with me for surgery when I go and I told her to prepare herself because I might turn into a baby after surgery. :( I'm very nervous about the post op healing process. I hope you get better and fast!

Thanks everyone. I'm feeling much better now, post op day 4. Got to shower and sleep in my house finally last night and actually got a full 7 hours of sleep without any drugs (o don't like to take meds unless I have to bc my stomach has always been very sensitive. One thing that was really bad last night was that I took my happy pill (celexa) and then probably retired for the night a little too quickly so it felt stuck in my chest and ultimately I had to force myself to vomit a little and couldn't really get to sleep until midnight.

The gas pains are much better today and I'm drinking my Protein shake one ounce at a time, typically 3 oz per hour. I'm really staying on point with ankle exercises, walking, incentive spirometer etc bc I want the best possible results!

As for the size of the bougie, I haven't a clue. It wasnt something that ever came up in any of my research so I didn't even think to ask.

Thanks for all the well wishes folks, I can't wait to see how I look and feel a couple of weeks from now.

JG407-this might be TMI (to much info) but do yourself a favor and start taking something now for Constipation. That was absolutely the worst part of my surgery. One week later and, well........:(

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
