Well, I'm only 7 months, and I first noticed it around 3.5 months. It hasn't stopped yet. So I clicked 3-6 months for how long it lasted because there isn't a choice for STILL LOSING hair. :D

Yep, I lost it in buckets (well, it seemed like it) and right around the 8th month it slowed down and I'm shedding at a normal rate now, I think. :)

I haven't had surgery yet, but I was told by my surgeon that it is a lack of protien I am not sure what type of diet your doctor has you on I would talk to them about it.

Actually, it's due to two things -- the anesthesia and the rapid weight loss -- almost everyone who has had weight loss surgery has had SOME amount of Hair loss -- I don't believe I have seen anyone who has not.

Most hair loss starts around the 3rd month post op. . . .

I'm 4 months out now and someone needs to get Kim Zolciak on the phone because before it's all said & done I think I'm gonna need one of her wigs. This surgery is gonna swipe me bald headed I swear.

All silliness aside, I've only started the Hair loss in the last couple of weeks. I don't think anything we do can stop it. When I went to get my hair cut a couple months ago, the girl who cut my hair was like "ya... it IS going to happen". I've done all of that.. kept my Protein good, Biotin, even the olive oil & doing good on Vitamins... nothing. I think the best we can hope for is sales on floppy hats & bandanas and a new head of hair to go with our new bodies.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
