I am goin to Mexico July 21st!!

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

This is my first post here on this site. I am very excited to be going to Mexico for my band on the 21st of July as a self pay. Dr Kuri is my doctor there, any Kuri patients out there? I am a little nervous and very excited. I am 34, no kids, married (forever), and ready to get in shape and stay that way! I am thrilled to find such a great support system online, and I appreciate all of you out there that share your stories and journey! Ironically, I have a BS degree in health education and have a adversion to exersize, don't figure. I am going to start at curves as soon as I have recovered. I have done a good job of maintaining my weight for a long time, I am ready to lose it! I want to loose 100lbs! These are some of the reasons I am having surgery: My overall health, I want to be hot for my hubby(even though he says he thinks I look good), I want to do some extensive traveling and have concerns doing it heavy, I stand a lot at work and my feet hurt, but one of my big motivations is that I own a big trendy clothing store and I can't represent in my own clothes! I am tired of all my employees looking hotter than me! I am tired of going to trade shows and feeling like the only fat one there......I have pictures of all my employees and models on the walls of my store and none of myself....I could go on and on but this is just supposed to be an intro. I look foward to chatting with all of you!

I am a Kuri gal too, banded last January. Things are going good! Welcome to the board. If you have any questions PM (private message) or email me and I will share my experience with you. I think you chose a GREAT doc, but everyone thinks theirs is the best.. In this case we just happen to be right!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
