Please be careful about this one all. . . yesterday i was at work just caring on like normal and all of a sudden I felt very very drunk and like i was going to pass out. . . then i got so very sweaty that i literally soaked my uniform clothes. . . i don't remember much of anything after that but got home somehow, my hubbie took one look at me and right away took my blood sugar. . . 47 !!!! He said all i was doing was going in and out of conscienousness. . . after the blood sugar was stablized i tried to rethink (which is really hard to do) what i all ate over the day, plain bagel for Breakfast, 4 oz of macaroni salad for lunch, Pork rinds for snack. . . good enough for me. . . but apparently not good enough for the blood sugar. . . . be careful ya'll spread out the food and have Snacks and from now on I'm carrying a glucose drink with me just in case. . . .

Wow! Thanks for the warning! I guess you just never know. That's a good idea about carrying the glucose with you.

:( Wow.. very true, with all our limited eating we really have to be mindful of what we're eating. I find the very best thing to do is to always balance out any carbs I'm eating. If I have something that's on the higher end of the carbs, I will also be sure to have some Protein with it. It usually does work to keep me from getting weird glucose spikes or drops.

xoxo

Hey Thin,

funny you should post this... I have been having the same thing happen to me over the last couple of weeks... not daily but weekly. In a desperate attempt to get the scale moving again, I reduced my cal intake and carb intake... I got sweaty and dizzy plus a banging headache... my dad tested my bloods and they were 4.2 which, although in the normal range, is still on the low side. I have now increased my good carbs a little... but I am still getting the headaches but these might be due to my hormones... there is just toooo much to think about ...lol x

Good info -- I've had it happen to me a couple of times -- it's scary -- I always make sure I have some fruit juice quick at hand -- it's a good way to get in some good carbs fast -- glad you figured out what it is . . . hope you recovered quickly too!

Is that high or low as here in Canada we read in mmol/L and the range is 4 - 6. If its this range then its super high but I have a feeling your range is different across the boarder.

Something to be aware about that can happen. Thanks for the heads up.

Glad you're ok now.

Real fruit juice is a very quick and suggested way to bring blood sugar back up. You can get 4oz juice boxes that dont have to be refrigerated and would be perfect to keep in the car, at the office and at home for such events.

Also, you may consider tweaking your diet as a pp suggested. You had 2 meals in a row of nothing but carbs. That will cause an insulin spike, and with noting else to counteract the spike, your blood sugar will drop....as well as be counter productive in your weight loss efforts.

Protein first. There are reasons the doctors push this. You just experienced one of them.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
