1 mo out...when will the sizes start to drop???

Recommended Posts

Ok... I'm finally 1 month out today! Yay!! My surgiversary!! I've lost a total of 24lbs (all post-op) and I still am wearing my size 18 pants?! ugh!! I've tried on 3 size 16 slacks and they are all still too tight to wear! How in the world can this be? I've lost a good amount of weight but am still in my "normal" size????

When can I expect to see the pounds drop enough so I can fit in my smaller pants??? How many months were you when you finally got to drop a size?

I didn't drop sizes until I had dropped about 50lbs (from what I can remember). Now once, I dropped about 80lbs, and got into regular sizes like the regular 18s and 16s without the W or Plus in the sizing, I dropped sizes quickly. I skipped right over 12s, went from 14s to 10s. Once I got to goal, I was wearing a 9/10, getting into maintenance, I only lost about 23lbs and I drop from those 9/10s to a size 2/3 some 4s depending on the cut of the jeans.

I was out of my pre-op trousers very quickly, maybe a couple weeks post-op at most. However, I lose weight around my arms, shoulders, ribcage area much slower and it took almost two months before my shirts started getting too big.

Are you trying to go from a 18 W to a 16 misses? My BMI is 28 and I weight 174 and i'm just now leaving the size 16's for 14's. Maybe like a lot of use, we were a little poured into our old clothes. I remember I would never dry my clothes for fear they would shrink (I had those boogers nice and stretched out :P ). Now i'm trying to shrink stuff to get a little more wear out of them.

I was "wearing" an 18W when i started my journey at 215. Then went to a reg. 18, then 16 and just now falling COMFORTABLY into size 14 misses.

I work with a lady who is always telling us she wears a size 8 and weights 147 and is 5'9". First of all she is no taller than I am and i'm only 5'5 1/2". anyway, long story short. We finally got tired of her telling us this and I finally said "It's not about how much you weight or what size you are, It's about being healthy.... and at 174, i'm a lot healthier than you are at 147 (she doen't exercise). Not to mention, one of the other ladies is half her size and wears 10-12's :o

Bottom line.... don't concentrate to much on size. Every manufacturer cuts differently. A size 16 at Talbots might be much larger than a size 16 at the Gap.

another thing i've notice.... when my weight loss slows seems to be when I drop the most inches... I will get frustrated with slow weight loss one week and sure enough, I will put something on I wore the week before and it falls off of me.

My normal weight before I turned 35 was 125..... I"m 5'5 1/2" tall and when I was 125 I could wear a sz 6, by the time I was around 140, I was a size 10, at 150-160 ish I was a 12, and in my low 170's i've been in size 14's but odly..... from 190 to 215 I was a 18... hummm :P Maybe a little denial on my part.

Best of luck... and don't get stuck on the little stuff.

Another thing about dropping sizes - you may still be swollen around your waist from the surgery - depending on where the lowest of your incisions. If your waist is swollen, you may not be able to comfortably fit into the next smaller size pants, even though they are loose through the butt and thighs. I have lost 54 pounds here 3 months after surgery. I started out in 24W's / 3X's and now am wearing some 16Ws or 18Ws (and one regular 16, wonder of wonders). Hang in there - you will drop those sizes.

Also - be sure to take your measurements - I have a formal meausring session / picture taking the 1st of each month.

The story is.... I gained about 25lbs in order to get this surgery. Before putting on the 25lbs I was a 16 petite (cuz I'm short 5'2). While I gained the 25lbs I refused to buy any bigger sizes!! Well, I ended up having to and purchased 1 pair of black slacks, which are a size 18 petite. The 16's still dont fit yet... So here I am, just waiting to get into the brown and black and hunter green slacks that are the only 3 16's in my closet (cuz I'm usually a size 14) and no luck!! I did have a 2wk stall that just ended on Saturday but even though my face looks a lot smaller and I know I've lost inches, my a$$ isnt fitting into the 16s. LOL...

That is so weird how it works. Before my surgery a few years back i lost 50 lbs on my own. Well although my weight went down i was still wearing 22's and some 20's. HOwever, i would measure my stomach and it remained the same inches which was frustrating because all my weight seems to be in my stomach. Who knows???

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
