I am 8 days post op and doing pretty well. I am pretty much able to get my protien in by drinking 2 mega protien shakes (2 types of protien powder per shake) and am really close to getting 64 oz of fluids in. I noticed this morning that my tongue has the horrible white/yellow coating all over it. Has anyone else experienced this and is it a cause for concern? I looked on the internet and it says it can be a sign of inflamation, infection or dehydration. I really don't think I am dehydrated as unrine is good and I am getting my liquids in. My energy level is pretty low which is why I am doing the mega protien shakes. It seems like I heard that a coated tongue can be a sign of enemia. I am not taking Iron except what is in Centrum Complete. I don't go for my follow up appointment until June 17 (1 month post-op) and hate to call the doc if it is nothing. Along with the coating is horrible taste, I keep brushing my teeth but it doesn't seem to help.

Thanks for any responses you can give, I really appreciate all that take the time to respond to posts.

Could be side effect of ketosis? Or maybe thrush? Hope you feel better quickly.

Sounds to me and most peeps go thru this. You are in ketosis, which is a good thing. Your body is burning your stored fat supply. Most high Protein low carb programs will put your body in ketosis. Just make sure to you drink plenty of fluids. You are on your way!!!!

Sounds like ketosis to me, too. My tongue stayed ucky-looking for a while, a couple of weeks at least, and even now in the morning it's coated. food rubs it off once you can have solids.

The "Detox" people would tell you that's a sign that your body is purging itself of toxins. Having done a week of the Master Cleanse diet (the lemonade thing)(before surgery)(yes it sucked)(but I dropped 15 lbs in that week), I can say that it did happen to me while doing that as well, soooo... i've gotta go with that. :D

I've got it too. Even my tongue scraper isn't helping much. It seems to be getting better though. Just as long as the weight is coming off I don't care :)

I'd probably call your doc and just let them know about anyway since that can also be a sign of thrush (yeast type infection) in your mouth.

Had the same thing and it was thrush from the antibiotics.

I am 8 days post op too and also have it. I think it is thrush cuz I am also having yeast infection symptoms in the "lady parts". I was on antibiotics before surgery for bronchitis, then surgery and now post op. So you can give your dr a call. I got some of those 3 oz bottles of DanActive Dannon liquid yogurt and am taking a probiotic. I just started them so not sure if it's helping but i know i need to build the good bacteria back up that antibiotics kill off when we take them.

I had this too! It is horrible- and my family is like your breath smells like poop! (which of course didn't help me emotionally lol) but it does go away- my doctor said I just will need to keep drinking and keep brushing your tongue- it does go away- I am 4 weeks out now and only have it when I wake up in the morning and didn't drink much the night before. :)

I got it too, but most of brushed off with my tooth brush and original yellow listerine. A couple more brushings with the listerine over the next couple of days and went away completely.

Had the same thing and it was thrush from the antibiotics.

I am wondering cause I am suffering from the same now, with extra ugly signs that is preventing me from drinking and eating as the infection reached down my throat, so I am wondering how much time did it takes u to get rid of it and what kind of meds were u prescriped. cause my doctor just gave me bunch of B12 meds and immunity meds and other oral gels.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
